My new favorite beer, Guinness. Love the taste.

Goodbye Heineken.

Welcome! Heineken never did it for me, especially skunked in green bottles. Guiness is awesome, but beware, as every once in a while you'll come across a bartender who doesn't know how to properly pour it.

How are you supposed to pour it? I just slowly empty the can into a pint, no shaking, and let it sit for a minute.

I said that after the first date. I still don't know why people pay money for that stuff.

Work your way up to a Guinness Extra Stout, if you dare. Besides the coronary, nothing goes better with a chunk of red meat and a basket of kettle-style Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar potato chips.

If you want something fun over the course of a less intense meal, float 2/3 Guinness on 1/3 cider. Right about the time the "ooohhh...hops" moment sets in, the cider comes in and puts a mild finish on the end of the glass.

Finally got some Laphroaig 10. Daddy like.

Very flavorful, not quite as "heavy" as the Lagavulin 16.

Orval

Nice bitterness and a peppery/medicinal flavor that's quite complex.

You know, I can't remember having an Orval... I think that's next! Now having a Sierra Nevada 30th Anniversary Stout. A collaboration between Anchor Steam and SN, the beer's a mighty black stout. No light may penetrate it. The flavor is pretty light, but dense and complex, just not overly strong in any one category. I did think I should immediately go out and get more. But now I realize I'm drunk! Foooo.

Tullamore Dew and Powers are both delicious for their price. Jameson is not as good as either of those.

Also an Oatmeal Cookie (as a shot, though I prefer it as a drink), and a River Shannon (which I think is a one-off local bar invention consisting of whiskey, ginger ale, and some other stuff).
This is over the past 3.5 hours or so.

Holy crap! That was an eye-opener. Maybe we should have a debate, err, discussion about this. Going back to read it.

There is quite of a number of solid American-brewed beers. ;)

Anyway, I have having another bottle of Southern Tier's Backburner (Barleywine). I guess using a different glass has made a noticeable impact on the flavor.

Poor man's long island iced tea:

1 part Vodka, 1 part Rum, 2 parts margarita mix, healthy splash of lemon juice
Shake in shaker with ice
Strain into glass with ice and add cola to taste

It's all I had on hand and it turned out much better than I thought it would. I will definitely be making this again. My only regret is running out of the margarita mix. I guess it'll be vodka and coke next...

Sounds good to me. Can't say I've tried Margarita mix in a long island... Do they usually have that in there?

I'm having Raymond's Reserve Merlot. Should go well with the steak I just grilled. 8)

Usually sweet and sour. I figure margarita mix was close enough... ;)

The beer was Samuel Adams Summer Ale (seasonal) and my God... was it terrible. Summer Ale? More like DIAPER ale. I could only manage half a bottle before dumping out the rest. I'm pretty sure this beer is just the "screwed up" batches of something else but bottled under a different label or something. It's pretty bad. Stay away from this beer.

Was this Summer Ale from last summer? Although I didn't try that one, it sounds like it got funky somewhere. Sam Adam's usually puts out good stuff.

Speaking of, now having a Unibroue Terrible! It's been a hell of a week, and it's only Wednesday. Had a power failure on Sunday night which made for a hectic Monday, restored a dead machine into a VM (with VMM, niiiice), then fixed the time drift of the Hyper-V host. I'm going to drift in tomorrow... just need to document all the changes. So, a Terrible treat tonight. It's dark. It's strong. Everything is starting to sparkle.

Me posting again? Thanks guys for making me feel like an alcoholic. Anyway, just now having a Dogfish Head Burton Baton. I think this is the first barrel aged beer I've had, but it is clearly one of the best beers I've ever had!

Hat trick! Go Sharks! Anyway, working hard on a Lost Abbey Judgment Day. If not the best label I've seen, certainly a great beer. The color is brownish dark red, the head starts off strong then to a sticky thin. Smell is alcoholic, but with all that dark frui... Bzzt.
