Guiness Nitro IPA. Think mostly-flat Golden Eagle, which explains why there's any left from the weekend. If I had any mostly-bubbles light-beer, I'd be willing to try mixing them.

I tried Guiness Nitro IPA a few weeks ago. I did not like it at all.

I haven't tried the Guinness Nitro IPA yet. With so many other great craft beers coming on the market all the time (and insufficient time to try them all), sometimes it takes a while for me to get around to trying the new offerings from the bigger brewers.

Based on what I'm seeing at Beer Advocate, I'm assuming this is thinner and less hoppy than a typical craft IPA; maybe more like a slightly stronger Boddington's Pub Ale? If so, it sounds like something I'd probably enjoy having once in a while... might go well with food, when you don't really want a slap-you-around-bitter type of IPA.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Well I think all ipas are that bitter. :lol: drinking a little Sam Adams summer at the moment. Maybe I'll try to find something local tomorrow.

It's all about perception (and balance, insofar as any IPA could be said to have balance). A one-dimensional "all about the bitterness" IPA is uninteresting at best, unpleasant at worst. But if there are enough other flavors in there (just a touch of sweet malt, or fruity/spicy/resiny/herbal hop flavors in addition to the bitterness), they can be quite enjoyable (IMO).

I'm not a big fan of the Sam Adams Summer. I think they do a much better job on their lagers than their ales. Different strokes and all that... :wink:

Speaking of IPAs... having a Ska Brewing Modus Mandarina IPA. It's a bit of an oddball of the IPA family, being brewed with orange peel, and hopped with Mandarina Bavaria hops (which have a distinctive tangerine note). Yes, it's bitter (it's still an IPA, after all...), but "It's not like the other IPAs!"

Think "IPA with a hint of orange marmalade".

I like it.

Agreed about the summer, I wasnt really into it. However next is a devils backbone Vienna lager. I like it a lot. I can really let the flavor sink in and its very tasty.

With the heat and grotesque humidity of summer setting in I've been allowing myself to partake of Satan's own saccharides every so often. My preferred way to do so (apart from a nice dark chocolate with whiskey or rum) is to drink Boylan's Birch Beer. Their ginger ale is good, too.

Wintergreen may be my favorite flavor...

Believe it or not, I found Egg Nog at the grocery the other day. Yup, 4th of July and I have me some fresh Egg Nog.

I have never ever seen Egg Nog for sale outside of Christmas season before. I couldn't resist and had to get a couple of quarts. :lol:

This weekend was fun. I had some usual staples at a family fireworks party. Picked up a bottle of glenlivet 12 year and 4 varieties of beer and the linenkugel(sp) summer was my fav. I also made a mission out of finding a good lady wine and my quest ended with blackberry wine as the victor. I also tried my first port wine and found the super sweet flavors contrast to the 18%abv hilarious and inebriating.

Bruichladdich's Port Charlotte Islay Barley Heavily Peated.

I haven't found the right ratio of water to whisky to really enjoy this yet. It reminds me of a peaty Highland Park 12... not my favorite, but it'll do in a pinch.

edit: a reviewer said to drink it straight despite the higher strength, and you know, he was right. Not bad now.

I'm down by Charleston and found a local "holy city brewing" wheat beer called washout wheat. I like it a lot, going to try another local next but I forgot the name already. I love these weak girly beers. Yum yum.

Next up was a Sweetwater blue. Basically a wheat beer with blue berry juice poured in. Disappointing flavor synergy.

Bruichladdich is wonderful. I brought a small bottle of The Classic Laddie back from Scotland last year and really enjoyed it.
Since then I've begun to appreciate the peat. I try not to have too many nice whiskies around, so I'm enjoying Talisker 10 now, but I think the Port Charlotte or Lagavulin 16 is next. Definitely going to get something from Islay.

Oh right, currently drinking a rosewater/tonic/vodka lemonade drink. Things in the fridge needed to be finished, and it sounded like a good idea. Certainly was. Next up is Lakefront Brewing Growing Power.
