Ok let me tell u the best Indian food u can have..... In India usually when we want to eat the best food we will move near any village or near Highway where there is place called Dhaba (very small hotel) ...... where u have to sit on the bed which is made of khathi..(its a thread which covers the bed) now u dont get a dish but u get a dish made of leaf... and yum the food at Dhaba is good.... its heaven :D

well ppl like me have been to your country, and i'm well aware of what
a dhaba is... it's most definately NOT a small motel... in comparison to
america, it's like driving down to the ghetto and eating food next to a
garbage dump. there's dogs and cats running around constantly begging
for food, and all the aluminum bowls/plates are hand-washed... yeah you
get a plantain leaf to eat on (not true of all dhabas), but the food they
serve is good, kinda homemade-feel to it, but i most certainly would not
consider it the 'best' food... its what road travelers eat on a long journey
between destinations for the most part.

I beg to differ. Looks like you went to the wrong place. Dhabas are really nice places to have food during travelling. The food is home made and usually very tasty. There are some ones though like the ones you mentioned. Dhabas are really godsends for even us, native travellers going to another part of our country. And usually the dhaba owners are very friendly people, pointing out some beautiful places you could visit on the way

May I ask you where you stayed? Next time you visit India drop me a line. I'll try to get one of my friends to show you the places which ought to be seen and some really good dhabas with delicious food.

where i stayed when i lived there? the first 3 weeks some hotel in
bangalore... forgot the name of the street, but it was like 100 characters
long... haha.. crazy names ya'll got over there...

the last 3 weeks they put me up in a better hotel (still in bangalore), during
our visit to chennai, we stayed at a hotel that has been featured in a
bollywood movie, which was cool! gotta love those 5 star hotels, eh?

and we'll DEFINATELY be visiting India again. not sure how SOON it'll
be, but if yer still living there, we'll look you up. but i should have a handful
of indian friends leftover from my last visit :)

the most addicting indian stuff i had over there were those cucumber
salads with that crunchy stuff on top of it... and the mangosteen shakes
i got daily from the lassi bar. *yum*

lol whats the point of not having sex? recently in INDIA TIMES, they
did some strong statistics versus last years numbers and indians are indeed
having more premartial sex then you wish to believe... :) so times are
indeed changing, and the yound indian generation are caring LESS about
the rituals and their religious beliefs of yesteryear....

I've never had Indian food. Scary, but true.

I love Japanese food, love Thai and Vietnamese, so it's not the spices or anything that I'm worried about. I guess it's more the fact that no one I know will try it with me.

We didn't have Indian restaurants where I grew up in Florida and when I moved up here to Illinois, everyone is just meat and potatoes, no interest in exotic foods. Despite the fact that we have 5 or 6 Indian restaurants in my little town because of the medium sized Indian community that works at outsourced computer resources for my employer.

You guys are making me hungry, I'm just gonna have to go by myself if I can't get anyone to try it with me.

are you that unsure of yourself that you cant try something new by yourself
without having someone to hold your hand?

here, i'll put some ease into it, for indian n00bs, most ppl generally order and enjoy these items:

chicken tikka masala
butter chicken
samosa
(vegetarian is better cuz it has aloo/potatoes in it) w/ tamarind chutney
garlic naan
masala dosia w/sambar
tandoori chicken

Um, food? Vindaloos? Curries? Naans? This thread has a topic, please stick to it.

Thanks for listening.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

At the risk of sending this off to R&P, the conservative bent of India can be directly related to the British Victorian influence. They were really stuck up..

On the other hand, they brought a lot of yummy vegetables that have been adopted into indian cooking... I don't believe tomatoes or potatoes are native to India, nor garlic... Onions I'm not sure about either... I'll have to get back to you on the rest of the foods that the british introduced to India...

 OK so the topic -IS- about INDIAN FOOD? so that means every friggin
post here HAS to be ONLY about INDIAN FOOD? i think not sir. no friggin
way. unless you want me to open 50 other threads that deal with different
aspects of this post i see absolutely NO HARM in varying a little off from
the original topic... especially when it still deals with the Indian culture/society as a whole...

Don't get angry man. Why don't you just open a thread for Indian culture where we can talk to our hearts wishes and leave this thread alone. Topics about food mustn't have replies about sex . Honestly. BTW I know that I replied irrelevantly but I guess we got carried away.

oh i try not to get angry, but this site is far from lax, i mean we cant even
go off topic for a bit without having a mod jump down our back for it...
i mean is that really necessary? i think not.

thanks for the agreement. i mean we're ALL adults here. and we know
there are rules that are applicable to these forums. fine. but does one
need to be so anal to ALWAYS jump in and lock threads or mention that
we should stay on topic? whats wrong with a little conversation that
strays from the OT a bit? none. its all good as long as its not spam or
flaming each other. geez.
