So this is it. Today is my last day at my current job. On Monday I begin working for the largest employer in the area (they employ ~14,000 people in the Peoria area) as a remote desktop support rep. I'm nervous and excited and about to pee myself over it all at the same time, because it means that once all the nice bennies kick into effect and the substantial pay raise that goes with this starts to come in, it's time to start making baby Macolytes, or Funklettes, as my mom calls them.

I'd considered posting this poll the day I gave my notice to see how much effort I should put into my job in my last two weeks, but I decided to work my notice and was curious what all you've done at previous jobs.

I worked less and less as the time went by. Rather than my normal productivity, I closed a grand total of three support calls this past Monday, and then I was reassigned to record some training videos. If I keep at it, I'll probably manage to get those done by the time today ends, assuming I don't leave early.

When I switched groups I worked until the last day. I think I worked late some of the days before me leaving. As much as my last group bugged the hell out of me if I really needed a job I'm sure they would hire me again and I wouldn't want that to change on the last day or so.

I'm sure I will do that at the place I am now after I burn out and decide enough is enough.

All the last days I've worked, it's always been the same as another day. Well with a few exceptions: My last day working @ Universal 2 years ago, they let me drive the golf-cart (woohoo!). My last day working Men in Black @ Universal 1 year ago, I rode the ride after closing w/ another coworker of mine named Andrew (which is my legal name). Andrew won. My last day at Universal this past winter break, I got to close, which means staying until like 2:30 I also got to drive the truck around to deliver the paperwork and such. Good times.

At my other jobs, working IT/computer support, We've just always gone out to eat for lunch (Cici's FTW!), but other than that, it's a day as usual.

If they have been semi-decent to you......don't burn your bridges! You never know what may happen in the future.

However, if the managment was completely amiss and your supervisor was an Asshat I say go for broke.....spend all day saying goodbye to everyone don't do a dang thing!

I've always tried to keep up my normal pace even on the last few days of work. Yeah, you feel like doggin off, but I like for my boss to think of me as a good worker (and you never want to burn any bridges).

QFT. My last job I worked right up to the last minute. They had been good to me, so I repaid kindess with kindess. The job before that...a$$hat central. I gave them a 4 week notice because of their high turnover. This was on a Tuesday. That Friday at 5 minutes till closing, they called and said, "Don't bother showing up Monday." And the bosses themselves couldn't do it. They had the girl I worked with call. She was all upset, crying, etc. I started calling the home office at that point - no answer. Then I went to their cell phones which were required, per the owners, to be on. They were off. Go figure. So I called them at home over the weekend and told them what I thought of them having that poor girl call me to do their dirty work. Meh. Banking is much better. I'll stay here till they toss me out.

With the exception of the concrete finishing companies I’ve worked for during the summer, every employer I have resigned from has acted as if the resignation were a personal attack, gotten red in the face, and waved the 2+ weeks. Even if I left to go back to school or not to go to work for a competitor.

The Last place where i worked, the last day was like living the home forever..... immotional moments.... the place where ur carrer is develop and then u move ahead.... its sometimes harder to move ahead in life living the past behind :cry:

Worked all the way through my two weeks notice, although the very last day I didn't do much of anything (and the coworkers bought me lunch at my favorite Thai restaurant). I was expecting security to escort me out immediately after I gave my notice, but they didn't. I guess that means they liked me. Truth was though, I wanted them to escort me out... I really could have used the vacation between jobs.

I think my current employer looks at anything I got done over the last two weeks as a gift; they know I've been unhappy and in February I put them on notice that I was looking. I'm not burning my bridges, but I'm not as motivated as I was, say, last month.

The last job I got fired from the boss didn't have the guts to fire me and came up with a stupid excuse, the reality is she had over hired and the new people were more experinced than me, she could have said that I would have been fine with it but it instead she said it was because I refused to broom (which I did broom). The wrost part was getting yelled at by my dad when it wasn't even my damn fault, however she said I could finish up working that day, everyone in the yard told me to sit my a$$ down and not work at all. I got board and clocked out early.

I varies, I don't like to burn bridges, so I will work on what ever they need just as hard as I always have.

However a lot of my jobs I have been in a consulting role. So sometimes I was at a down point between projects and thus wasn't doing much at the time it happened. So they didn't really send anything my way so I floated around without much to do.

All depends.

I've given notice for one job (the rest have been temp/term or I was "let go" :lol:

). They let me have the time off with pay (and got paid for my remaining vacation time). With what they had me doing there, I think it was reasonable. :-?

I go with the "don't burn bridges" theory, and work throughout my last day. That said, sometimes on my last day, I've been known to be snarky to asshat customers at various places. Never anything too bad, usually just explaining to them that no, we really don't need to keep track of whatever they bought two or three years ago, or that a 30 day return policy means a thirty day return policy.

I put down worked all the way thru. Last 2 jobs I held.

consultant for a firm: after giving 2 weeks notice; worked 9-5 in SF for 1 customer, drove 20-40 miles to 2nd customer after that for 3-4 hours, and had 1 hour drive home, also worked the weekends.

Previous job from this I called in and quit after working/firefighting 7x16 hours and getting reamed for not documenting what I did.

I worked less and less as the days went since I covered work more thoroughly and prepped the interim guy more thoroughly.

For some reason I can't leave a company without knowing that the work will continue efficiently.

I worked progressively less and less, I'd cut corners here and there and do the bare minimum towards the end. A couple of minutes before the end of my last day of work my 'friend' who worked there and was just showing up and told me to take out the garbage.. No way in hell was I going to do that in my last two minutes. I left and didn't come back as an employee. Worked quite well.

The last job, after I tendered my notice (a birdge burning conversation if there ever was one), I thought sure I'd be walked out. I had said in the notice meeting that I had taken my last help desk call, no matter if I was walked out or not.

As it turns out though, I ended up putting in well over 40 hours both of the weeks, and my last day was a 14 hour marathon. There was a lot of work to do, and my beef was with management, not with the poor schmoe's I worked with. So I tried to help the poo schmoes out as much as I could.

GIS seems to think you are working for catepillar or in health care, either way - congrats.

I usually work as hard as usual the last couple days as normal. But that is far from impressive.
