A P4 3 Ghz laptop with XP/gentoo for main use

A P3 1 Ghz desktop which will become a firewall/nat/gateway/file server

Hopefully when Vista comes out I will have the $$$ to build a new desktop with all the bells and whistles; 64 bit dual or quad CPU, 512 mg gfx, 2-4 gigs of ram, raptor hard drive etc...

Yep. I didn't count my laptop I use at work.

I'll be 5+ as well if I counted the XP-M Shuttle, P200 MMX and P200 that are offline and not powered at the moment.

My desktop, my laptop, server machine, XP MCE mediaPC, my daughter's PC, my wife's PC and a laptop in the kitchen. All but my laptop see daily usage. Oh, does a hacked Tivo count?

I said only 4 in the survey since they are the ones actively used.

2 in my room - desktops
2 upstairs in my sister's room and office - 1 laptop, 1 desktop

1 laptop sitting in a bag waiting to be reformatted
2 laptops with too many issues to deal with
3-6 CPUs sitting in the basement - not plugged in but are in working condition (although outdated)
NEW SYSTEM DETAILS: i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz |16 GB RAM| NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 | Solid State HDD | 1 TB HDD | and numerous external drives

I currently have a dually Athlon MP 2600+ and an Athlon64 3200+.

Web server is an Athlon XP 1800+.

Wife and youngest daughter share a Duron 1.1GHz.

Son has his own Duron 1.1GHz.

Have an Athlon 800MHz fileserver running in the crawlspace.

Oldest daughter (currently off at college) still has her trusty old Athlon 700MHz box that I built for her when she started high school.

There are a couple of other systems in various stages of assembly/functionality, and some dedicated folding nodes (most of which I run only in the winter, when the energy consumed would be needed to heat the house anyway).
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

I voted 3, my games rig, the file server and a notebook but would you count a media box as active if all it ever does is play media, ie movies and music?

I've got 2 desktops that I use in my house right now, I'm building a new computer and upgrading one courtesy of hance in the bargain basement before going off to college, I plan on bringing them both to my dorm in college so that I can invite a buddy of mine from the next room over to **** around playing fear online etc.

hmm... 2 desktop, 1 media, 1 laptop, 2 server.. That's like... 6. :o

..and parts for 2 more decent computers. Maybe time to start looking around for people in need. Oh, and one of the servers doesn't do much more than the occasional download.

Seven:

Main W2K3 Server: Domain, Exchange, SQL, Web
Backup W2K3 Server: Domain, Exchange backup
FreeBSD Server: DNS, Web, other stuff
My Main WXP box
My work laptop
My girlfriend's laptop
My daughter's laptop

That doesn't count the TiVo or the computers that are disassembled. :-)

The server boxes actually run in my garage on a nice little shelf with a great big UPS and a shared KVM.

Yep, 2 on my desk, 1 on my wife's, 1 for the daughter, 1 server. And those are just the ones I can turn on on a moment's notice (i.e. plugged in today). I have at least 5 more (going down to a 386/40 with Netware) that should be plug in & turn on, assuming they still work from being in the garage and/or attic (not enough monitors though). I have a couple more that need work to be useable, maybe 3 or 4, but they get pretty slow at that point (fastest one's a Compaq Pentium 200).

there are 5 running computers in my house.
i have my new gaming rig... kept my old machine for downloading etc..
my dads got his desktop, and both my sisters have desktop machines. the sisters machines probably arent used as much as mine, mainly homework, using word and internet surfing. but they are used.
there also the living room computer that my mom uses on occasion. but not very often so i wont count it.

plus 4 or 5 older computer in the basement that are just for parts.

Main PC (E6400 C2D @ 2.9Ghz)
My laptop (Old sony ultraslim, I think it's P3/800?)
Leach box (P3 1Ghz Dualie)
Wife's PC (P4 1.6 northwood @ 2.2Ghz)
Living room HTPC (P4 2.4Ghz northwood, MCE2005)
Prospective Bedroom HTPC - not installed yet (AXP 2100+)
Extra motherboard, might be Linux experimentation or bedroom HTPC (P4 3.0Ghz nothwood @ 3.3Ghz)

To add to this, the best thing to do for your significant other is to get them their own PC.
