by the year 3,000 the human race could well be split into two different classes, a 6-7ft tall elite and an imp-like underclass.

The theorist claims that the genetic elite will be healthy, smart, good looking and creative, whereas the underclass will be short little ugly idiots.

Interesting. I honestly don't care what happens 994 years from now. I seriously don't think we're gonna last that long....probably end up nukeing ourselves or something.

And according to the article, the article was about tall people vs small people. How do we know that the "tall" class isn't full of dumb people, while the short class has all the smart people? So becuase I made a mistake, I'm thrown into the "impish" class, even though I might be 7 feet tall?

The European monarchies of the 18th and 19th centuries were pretty good examples of elites who like to keep the genetic line pure.

They were neither:

tall
healthy
smart
good looking (for the most part they did have good portrate artists)
or creative.

though I'm sure they thought the rest of their respective populations were idiots (well they'd have to be to let them stay in charge!!! )

Well, in fairness, they didn't have the broadest range of genetic material to work with, and selection was by social standing rather than any real merit.

What, did he read The Time Machine as a kid? I really need to figure out some BS of my own to publish and make money.

Yeah but that's the problem with elites, if you are born into one then it's more likely that you'll marry within it and more likely your children will stay within it.

I think mattsteg means if the elites are numbered in the hundreds of millions or more and are mobile like today's society is, there would be plently of genetic variety.

I think I saw this movie. Except they were called Morlocks and Eloi instead of "tall elite" and "short ugly idiots".

Wow, 9004 years from now. You were told to quit drinking the bong water but I see you did not listen. The article stated by the year 3000. So in 9004 years it will be the year 11010. After realizing your mistake I can now see you meant to write 'in 904 years from now' which makes alot more sense but still make it the year 2910. It has become very clear which of these 2 groups you will be in.

i think he meant it as a compliment considering he said which group "you will be in".

Living over 900 years cant be a bad thing.

on a more serious note, I will be shocked if the world lasts in current form for more than 30 more years.

I'm with danny e., I doubt that there will be much life, human or otherwise, on the planet past 2100. Richard Dawkins suggested that it will in fact be Rodents (not cockroaches) who will survive the collapse of the ecology, and that they will get a quick growth spike as they eat all the rotting flesh of human civilisation, and then they too will suffer a gigantic kill-off.

I think it's rather naive and andro-centric to suggest that we are growing into some kind of large-cocked super-species. The genetic diversity (which is the point of life on the planet) of the human species is the best that it's ever been. However I don't see a whole lot of super beings around.

I found that article pretty much of a joke. Unless you commit genocide on a massive scale there will always be differentiation in the human species. If there were no differentiation one wild virus and there will be no human race. That is the whole strength of evolution, having as much variation as possible so that one genetic, ecological etc.. disaster won't wipe out a species.
