Welch it mostly depends on the level of polish you want. $150-300 is not uncommon.

Huh, I checked my blog and found I had an article that was 80% finished in draft. I finished and published it, if anyone is interested.

Thanks for the 7.62 x 25 write up! My vz. 52 (manufactured in 53) says, "Bang!" Maybe I need a Yugo to go with my CZ? I already have a set of Lee dies. What are your sources for reloading data? My Speer #ten manual (1979) doesn't list it or 7mm-08 for my 700 BDL varmint special.

Hornady and Sierra both have load data in their books. I've had good luck with Power Pistol and the 86 grain Sierra bullets. Unfortunately this is not a very economical cartridge to hand load.

Took possession of this the day of Grandad's funeral; He got it from either his dad or his grandad--I've heard both ways. Want to find a smith to look over it to make sure it's safe before I use it. As far as either my mom or my aunt knew, my aunt was the last one to shoot it and that was more'n 30 years ago. Serial number puts the manufacture date in the early 1920s.

Winchester Model 1886?

If it was made in the 1920's it was made for smokeless powder, but still a good idea to have someone look it over before firing it.

Dad & I used to test guns like this by lashing them to a large truck tire and pulling the trigger with a string from a safe distance. We were both surprised at how far an 1873 Springfield (in .45-70, of course) could push that tire back.

It's a 94; it's old enough it's stamped 30 W.C.F rather than 30-30

Still a reliable deer harvester here in VT, where shots of more than 100 yds are rare.

Oh, I like the round, I'm just not sure I want to trust a 90 year old gun my grandfather and his father used and abused for decades until it gets looked over  I loved Grandpa but he was hard on his tools.

It looks in great shape externally at least for being used and abused. I'd assume that stock had been refinished a few times since it was made. If the stock is original, then I'm impressed.

Woohoo! I found a guy in Arizona that does trigger work on bullpups. I sent him the trigger pack for my FS2000 and it arrived today. It took the nasty 12 lbs. trigger pull down to about 5 lbs. It's never going to be a great trigger, but holy smokes it no longer is a horrible trigger.

I'm definitely going to give it a workout this coming weekend.

Any of you industrious types built a Glock from an 80% lower? Brownells is running a sale and I’m tempted as a long term project gun.

You live and learn. And i obviously don't know jack **** about guns! So yeah, the sig was purchased brand new.
And sadly it doesn't have any fukcing rails - so i can't put any mods onto it like scopes, etc... SIGH!!!! ARGH!!!! FML!!!!!

But... taking it for a spin at the range and it's fun! wheeeee bang bang bang... hitting da targets.... so at least it works!
haha it put me back only $500 so no worries... it's my first gun... i'll be sure to be extra stupid on my next purchase
and consider a kimber 1911 at $2000-3000 ranges, brand new! yay!! woooo hooo

Man, I have not been to a range in almost two years since retiring active-duty. Need to take my Springfield family out for a day:
- M1898, 30-40 cal Springfield Krag-Jorgensen
- M1903, 30-06 Springfield
- M1-Garand, 30-06
- M1A Springfield SOCOM, .308 (swapped out polymer stock with a vintage wood GI walnut from an M14)
- Compact 1911, 45 ACP

Here's a bit of history on these type of rifles I posted on the Civilian Marksmanship Program forum.

Father-in-law recently passed away from Alzheimer's disease and the family divided up a few firearms he owned. Was given another 30-06 rifle, Midland Co. Made in England, based on similar bolt action as a M1903. Pretty good condition but i need to break down the bolt assembly and clean it up. Also given a Mossberg bolt-action shotgun, 20 gauge, with a magazine. Kind of an odd firearm and not really a collectable according to this review but should be an interesting one to shoot.

Make sure the M1903 isn't in the low-serial number batch that shouldn't be fired these days.

Definitely checked that before purchasing it. It is in the safe serial # range with the double heat treatment vs the earlier single treatment issues. I've taken it to the range and tested different bolts in it.
If you get a chance be sure and visit the historic Springfield Armory in MA and see their museum collection. Was up there last year and really enjoyed it.

I regularly check the Walmart ammo cabinet for the current stock of CCI standard velocity 22s and in the vain hope of once again seeing some Winchester 357 Silver Tip 140 grain hollow points (nickle plated brass and jacket). Yeah, I'm a Lone Ranger fan going back to the radio days.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed an oddly shaped box of Remington 125 grain hollow points. Upon closer inspection the box contained two tightly packed plastic racks of fifty rounds each stacked one on top of the other. The end flap said 1400 and the price was $53. Not a bargain, but not bad by today's prices and I was running low on the 140 grain solid copper hollow points I paid more for from Midway USA. I whipped out the plastic and thought Thank You Santa!

This past Sunday the temperature was up around fifty and the house was blocking most of the wind, so out I went with water filled plastic gallon jugs and Thumper, my ten inch bull barreled TC Contender. If my nearly ended almost Indian Summer reaches your area (Vrock) this weekend get out and demolish some jugs with highish velocity hollow points, it's good for what ails ya. Force equals mass times velocity squared.

(Sorry for the mediocre picture)

I picked up this used CZ 452 "Trainer" in .22 LR recently. It might as well have been new since it's in pristine condition with what appears to be a new stock. The rifle came with a nice peep site installed and a steel 5-round magazine. I'll post an update here once I have a decent amount of trigger time accumulated on it.

DrD,

The next time you are in Walmart pick up a couple of boxes of CCI standard velocity 22LR for $3.47 per box of 50. The packaging sucks, but they will almost certainly group tighter than either of those boxes of hi-speeds.

Thanks for the tip on standard velocity ammo; I just bought what the gun store had in stock when I picked up the rifle. The Mini Mag cost me more than 10 cents a round :o and the Blazer cost around 6 cents per round.

Unfortunately, the one store, around here that always carried cheap ammo, was driven out of business by a newly built Bass Pro over a year ago, and Walmarts nearby don't sell ammo either. I'l see if I can find somewhere that's a bit better on prices and inventory.
