Standard issue for Spec Ops is the HK USP SOCOM...which has the silencer..they can use other weapons..but this is the "standard" issue...in the end it all boils down to personal preference and the shooter

LfK, is that one of them Kahrs with the poly frame? How do you like it? Does it have a pretty harsh kick?

eckslax wrote:
To expand on Buub's questions, how is the trigger on that little Kahr of yours? From what I've heard, Kahr is the one to beat when it comes to pocket autos.

It's the Kahr PM-9, and I couldn't begin to sing enough praise. As I understand it, Kahr had some issues with an earlier version (MK-9?), but I wouldn't know about that.

I'm used to 1911 type handguns.....bigger framed and SA, so I expected a "bite" from the recoil, a lack of accuracy, an uncomfortably long trigger pull (DOA). None of these were an issue.

My wife's PPK/S (.380) kicks harder then this Kahr, even with +P rounds. The trigger did take a bit of a getting used to, but after a box I was fine. And the gun is amazingly accurate. It is as accurate as my custom Hi-Power, which is as accurate as my old Match grade 1911 was (I no longer own the 1911).

It's a well made weapon and exceeded my expectations on every level. The only complaint I have is that it's a mother to field strip. It breaks down similar to a 1911, but that slide release lever does NOT want to come out. I'm hoping that as I continue to break it in, it will get easier to disassemble. It's not impossible, just a pain that currently requires me to use a small screw driver as a lever to pry it out, and I'd rather not have to do that.

IMO, It's a little large for a pants pocket pistol. Deep concealed, IWB, or in a DeSantis riding in my coat pocket and you'd never know it was there. It's very thin and light for a .9mm. That I expected....the accuracy and lack of felt recoil was bonus.

It's a daily carry that's really a pleasure to shoot.

And my newest addition to the family that I got today for my birthday:

It's a Ruger Single Six in .22 LR. Below it is my new SOG Flash II assisted opening knife. The revolve shoots like a dream and proved to be a lot of fun at the range today.

I should dig out all of my guns and take a picture of them. Last I counted I was up close to 30.

Added some pics. Ruger M77 MKII 220 Swift. The target was shot at 100 yards by me a few days after I got it. I am not a very good shot I would like to see what it will do in somebodies hands that really knows how to shooot.

Does that stainless have the magnum cylinder to go with? Ive got one that i bought back in the early 80's and its a peach

It sure does. I can't wait to try out the magnums one of these days. :)

Have any of the Glock fans in this thread played around with a Springfield XD? It takes the good features of the Glock and expands by providing a traditional grip angle, a better trigger, a supported chamber, and a grip safety.

I like the XDs. I perfer the Glock grip myself, but hey. To each his own.

Another thing for me, they're so close in price, might as well get the time-proven Glock.

I may actually get a 5" Tactical XD .45 ACP, though, since Glock doesn't make a long-slide .45 :(

Besides, it is a nice lookin' gun!
http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod- ... eft5.shtml

Edit: OK, their are alot of people who don't like the Glock trigger. But I think alot of those people may not have done alot of shooting with a Glock, too. Holding both a well-tuned 1911 (the P14) in one hand and the Glock in the other hand, hell yeah the 1911 trigger feels better. But in the real world, the Glock trigger just works very well. At least for me.

The G35 and G21 triggers, in my hands, anyway, seem to be perfectly mated to the cartridge they're firing. Pull trigger, boom, gun recoils. Let trigger out while pushing gun back on target. "click" - feel trigger reset for next shot, gun is back on target, so squeeze off another shot. The trigger reset is exactly when the gun is back on target for me. It's great!

Rapid firing those two Glocks is very natural for me. Keyword there, "for me". None of the other Glocks I've shot are quite in tune like that. But, those are my two favorite Glocks, so who cares? 8) I did have a .357 Sig Glock 31, and that had some kick to it. Enough to bother me, too. And I like shooting the .50AE Desert Eagle :o  Maybe I just got too used to the soft push of the .45 Glock...

My first auto will be either a Springfield XD or a CZ75. I still have about a year to decide though.

I'd recommend the 5" Tactical XD, in .45 ACP. Or .40 S&W. Or whatever caliber you like

The longer sight radius is a big plus. Plus, you get a little more punch from the longer barrel. Not really enough to matter, though.

They're great guns, for sure...yup, I think the XD .45ACP is next up for me. Although, damn, I want an AR...

Watch out, they are addictive. I'm contemplating piecing together another AR and then ricing the heck out of it. It's going to be a spendy project though, so it will probably be on the back burner for a few years.

Yeah, I fired some while I was living in Syria.

But I gotta admint, I can't agree with you view. Cars aren't designed to kill, they're designed to transport people/objects, whereas guns, and weapons in general, are designed to kill...I don't get how people can be fascinated with things that are designed for nothing more then to kill people/animals?

Umm, except that guns are not designed only to kill people or animals. That might be the primary purpose originally, but another huge purpose that you are overlooking is sporting/recreational use. There are plenty of firearms manufacturers that produce and market guns designed primarily for target shooting.

Oh, and my guns have killed fewer people than Ted Kennedy's car.

Try to think about this topic in a different way. What are seat belts, helmets, athletic cups, knee & elbow pads, body armor, lawyers, democratically elected governments, and anti-virus programs for?

Guns can be and in many cases are) for personal protection.

In fact, you've convinced me to use a coined phrase.

Okay, I had some free time to grab a few of the babies from the safe.
Image
Those are:
Walther P99 with the "titanium finish" (yeah, right...) in .40 cal.
Steyr Scout Rifle in .308
Bushmaster Bullpup AR-15 with an Aeotech Holosight
and my wife's Mossberg 500 Cruiser in 12 Guage

I started shooting on Glocks and I love 'em. I picked up a Springfield XD along the way and they're similar in some ways, different in others. I used to refer to my XD as "a Glock, but with features". Haven't had a problem with it and it is a great gun. If I'm feeling like doing better than usual at an IDPA match, I'll take the XD (It's my 9mm, so cheap to feed!)

TheDVDMan: Yeah, the Glock trigger out of the box is pretty sweet. You should try my SW99. It has no reset "click", so you just sort of take it on faith that the trigger reset. Goes bang every time, but it is a little unnerving until you get used to it. Fast as hell when you do, though.

I would love to see what a collegue of mine could do with that one. Although im not sure he would do it. Ill ask him for some photos, but the guy is now building hos own guns from scratch as hes competing in both normal and unlimited classes. That is, you get a limit on the ammo, the rest is up for grabs. So hes currently building a huge 13 kg piece with the stock in aluminium. Thats the latest project. The groupings on the guys shooting there is ridiculous.

I hope to get a hunters license at some time in the comming years, that way i can get a few nice guns for sports and hunting. Getting a sports license is way more difficult and entitles some other stuff like applying for new licenses for each gun, and a limit on the amount and such. Also, having a hunting license gives some other benefits, namely, hunting.

As for gun pr0n - wasnt there a H&K gun that used caseless ammo around a few years ago. G11 i think the name was. Whatever happened to that idea.
