You might be interested to know that I recently picked up a Carl Gustafs 1896 Mauser. Mine was made in 1904 and rearsenaled and shortened to the M38 configuration at some point. What a sweet shooting rifle and caliber! I'll be doing a write up on it in the near future.

And with a non-Vrock aproved AR. DPMS 5.56 upper on a POF billet lower.

I am now leaning towards a 1911 style pistol.
I found out Taurus makes one chambered in 9mm, for about 550. I would rather the springfield one but its hard to find and about 250 dollars more.

SpartanCaptain wrote:I am not completely against 45cal. If I find one for a decent price I will def get it. I am going to a couple places to look today. Asking around people have been telling me they are not making as many in 38 any more. I dont mind the 9mm so I still may end up just getting that.

I think .45 is a great caliber for self defense. But if you plan to go to the range a lot, it gets really expensive to shoot. That's where a 9mm really shines.

Apologize for the bad photo - that's my all original 1911 that was originally purchased by the Army in early 1918. With it in the display case is my great grandfather's WWI era (early 1918) dog tag from the first run of dog tags that the Army made. The firearms and dog tag are unrelated but seem to go hand-in-hand(grandfather was stateside in a cavalry unit and may well have had a 1911).

I dropped the gun off with my brother in law, he is gonna do some customizing on it, polishing feed ramp up and doing some trigger work.
