I believe that:

Piracy is not only OK, it's necessary to keep the man in check.

I need a "Piracy isn't ok, but I do it anyhow because I feel safe I won't get caught" option. I've pirated things before, more often than not I buy the real thing if I like / use it, but I wouldn't say that about everything I've gotten in the past.

I clicked on "I don't really care". It's an interesting thing to think about and observe in the context of society and history, and I recognize that there's a moral negativity to it. However, I also try to not make someone else's problem my own. I don't advocate it, but I'm not going to condemn it with any level of vociferousness.

Anyway, I think it's wrong, but I'll do it if the software is necessary and I can't get it through a legal channel within budget and/or time constraints, or if I don't feel that it's worth what the manufacturer asks for it. Yes, I do pick and choose...

I don't believe the title will skew the voting results. The title was just intended to capture attention, not unlike having a booth babe shilling a motherboard. But if the motherboard sucks, you're still not going to buy it. The same euphemism applies here.

Anyway, I wouldn't be so sure about that - the thread title will get more people who are anti-piracy in here, skewing the poll, and getting people who are ready for a flamewar in here.

I'm sure he will remove the entire poll if he can. He's been doing it to his posts already. Even if he started the thread, presumably after careful consideration with his choice of wording and such, he will always think that he may have made a mistake or two. Rather than to "look like an idiot when people discover his mistake(s)", he would instead remove the post, regardless whether it breaks the entire flow of the conversation. According to him, it will never break the flow and people will understand. Usually that does not turn out to be the case and he will get the exact reaction that he fears the most.

The thread is going to be "removed" anyways, why vote? :roll:

I buy all my games and movies, hardly ever buy music, probably because I hardly ever listen to it. All music these days sounds harsh to my ears, lacking any kind of dynamic range.

I have always believed that if I use any ip product, I should pay for it, I also believe that means I can use it personally anyway I deem fit. Meaning that I can watch a movie I bought anytime I want, on any platform I have at home or on any personal device I own.

reading your choices, i find glaring the lack of a "its not OK, but I do it anyway". In the grand scheme of things you are getting something for nothing, but since its so easy people do it regardless.

Its just like that, without any feeble attempt at justifying ones actions.

All ya gotta do is dig around some. Go pick up the album <i>Orphans</i> by Tom Waits if you want to see (edit: rather, <i>hear</i> :D) some quality (albeit eccentric and often odd) music.

I completely agree with your assessment of the title. I don't think it will hurt the vote one way or another. It didn't stop me from casting my vote as I act.

You're pissed, release X2, with copy protection
X2 kicks butt, people like it, X2 is cracked and pirated
You're UBER pissed, release X3 with stronger copy protection
X3 kicks butt, peple like it, X2 is cracked and pirated
... the cycle continues ...

The strength of encryption/method to prevent piracy will not matter -- it will get pirated.

LOL! :lol: "the man" = Microsoft, Adobe, Autodesk, Apple, RIAA, MPAA, FWIW FTW.

Autodesk has been acquiring stuff at an alarming rate. 3DsMax, Revit, Maya, etc, etc...

Guilty as charged. I hate it when the developers want me to put the CD in every time. My drive is starting to scratch discs like there is no tomorrow. I've been relying on Steam for my games recently. Removes all these nooby restrictions and Steam just works for me since I have access to the net 24/7.
