On the 26th we had a high of 83F, I kid you not. Right now it's 21 with a chill index dropping it further to 13 degrees. I am really missing having my 200w GPU space heater in here  :P

Let's hope they got to the airport early.  That's got to take at least 10 or 12 hours.

That is the WORST kind of weather, IMO. There is nothing nastier than rain when the temperature is in the 30F-35F range. IMO it's worse than 100F summer heatwaves, or -10F winter "polar vortexes".

(OK, tornadoes and hurricanes qualify as worse... but I'm talking about the kind of weather you're likely to experience regularly, not freak events.)

About 6 to 8 inches of snow has pounded downtown Portland,OR.

(6.5" yesterday,and it's still falling this morning..)

It's a mess out there.

Haven't seen snow this deep since the Blizzard of 1996.
(My fellow Oregon gerbils will hopefully remember that..)

That can make for a messy commute, but isn't blizzard taking it a bit far? That's a normal snowfall for any given winter storm in New England. Is snow that uncommon over there?

In coastal PNW? Yes.

It was in the single digits a few days ago in DC, and tomorrow it's supposed to be in the 60s. There was also a dusting of snow here last weekend.

I am still amazed by the 'smoke' forecast. Certain other cities I track for weather routinely have 'smoke' due to pollution. Is it worse to have 'smoke' at 5* F or 95* F?

It's 25F and drizzling here. I had a good 1/4" of ice on my car this morning.

For JBI, fly in fly out mining job (Oyu Tolgoi).  For FireG, yes UB (for short) use old Russian coal plants from who knows when to power and heat the city.  Yes, there are large insulated pipes beside the roads carrying hot water to the city from the coal plants.  And yes, very smoky in the winter.  Smell like camp fire all the time and everywhere there in the winter.  Air is fresh in south Gobi though ;)

It's been snowing, lightly but steadily, for fourteen hours here now. Temperatures have hovered at or just above freezing. It's supposed to go back and forth between rain and snow, below and above freezing, through tomorrow's commute. I expect it to be a thorough disaster.

Already watched one guy attempt to come down the hill in a Mustang convertible earlier this evening. At least he had the sense of mind to realize he'd made a terrible mistake before he picked up too much speed, and swung it into a neighbor's driveway.

Ugh, that's the worst. Good for a nice sheet of ice that can last forever if it decides to stay below freezing afterward.

Well, the pleasant surprise that I woke up to this morning was that the freezing rain never happened - just more wet snow. Which weighs a ton, especially at the road edge where it's compressed by the plows and mixed with sand and salt, but I'll still take that over ice.

All told, we've gotten about 55 cm of snow since Thursday. Not the worst, but I wouldn't mind not having to shovel for a morning or two.

We didn't get nearly that much, but we had those basic same conditions last Wednesday. High of 33F (1C) and wet snow for hours on end. The next day it was 29F (-1C) and stayed, but the day after that it hit around 40F (5C). Total was around 4" (10-11cm, I think). Now it's all gone because the weekend was so warm.

Here in downtown Portland,OR...I've dealt with nearly 2 inches of rain in the past 24 hours.

It sucks.(Even worse,it's a cold rain-the kind that soaks in and chills you right down..)

We've had 54cm of snow this week. Snow banks are higher than people in some places.

Next week is all above freezing with temperatures of up to +7C. We're going to get a big melt and with all this snow covering drains and catch basins it is going to be a lot of flooding.

Luxury. :P

I was in Boston for the winter of 2015, with 275 cm over two months. I actually wince a little bit now when snow starts to fall.

(Hope the flooding doesn't get you.)

I cooked on the grill last night. High of over 50 and a low in the upper 30s. Spring has sprung, but winter never really came.

The last year I lived in Rochester, 1994, I moved after we got a May storm of 6" +, not much in the scheme of it. After you've been wearing shorts for a month and then find yourself using your ice scrapper on the windshields, it was time to go.I miss the snow but not 7 months of it. From what Ive seen the Rochester winter's arent what they were when I was growing up in the 70's.

The DC area is covered in ice today. It rained little ice pellets for about 12 hours. Took me an hour and a half to chip the driveway and get the car out.
