It's been in the 20's for a couple of days in the DC area. I cleaned the leaves out of my gutters today and I found that water had gotten stuck in the leaves and debris and frozen in the bottom of the gutter, so I was really pulling out sheets of ice with cleaves, twigs, and other debris stuck in it. Quite a happy surprise, as I love the colder weather and all the things that go along with it!

Heh, I'll have to remember that trick if I move up north.

We had a low of 36 on Saturday. Tuesday it's supposed hit 75. Winter is fleeting here.

Glad Thursday is an optional work from home day for me. I'll take that option!

Looking to hit -25C here west of Ottawa in the next while. Might be time to put the hoodie away and get out my winter coat.

You only switch out of hoodies at that level?! Sheeeeit. It's 25ºf in MD this morn (~-5ºc) and people were crying, though the 30mph wind gusts might have been a big part of that.

For people who live in that weather, I don't find it surprising at all (although I suspect MaxTheLimit is exaggerating a bit).

What I find really strange is how quickly people lose cold resistance when moving South. I'm from Indiana and have several relatives who moved to Florida. None of them can seem to handle 45ºF (~7ºC). I know Florida is warm, but unlike Florida natives, these people have experienced "real" winter, and you'd think they could handle a couple days of Fall...
On second thought, let's not go to TechReport. Tis a silly place.

The metabolism shifts.  Once had some friends move down to Denver metro from Alaska for about five years.  The first winter, it would be 20F and they were running around in short sleeves.  By the second winter, they were wearing the same jackets and hats as anyone else.

Nope. It's about -18C today and this is the jacket I wore to work:

LINK

I did have a toque, scarf and gloves on though.

My co-worker, Mike, is wearing about the same, but with shorts ( yeah, he's one of THOSE guys )

My girlfriend went to work wearing a similar sweater with no toque or scarf. She's...odd though.

I used to work with a guy who would wear a t-shirt (no jacket) until it was well below freezing. I'll only do that for very brief periods, e.g. to take the trash and recycling out to the curb, or pick up poop after letting the dog out in the yard.

Some proof:

I kind of regret it though. Instead of eating, I go on 1 hour walks for lunch. By the end I couldn't really feel several important parts of my body.

EDIT - And yes, that jacket is so thin the light emitted by my monitor can be seen through it.

I hesitate to ask, but what parts of your body do you consider not important?

It's warmed up, which is good because I was in a field today at the base of one of our towers. I'm supposed to be an office guy now. None of this field work.

Disgustingly cold weather here in Portland,OR.

The high tomorrow is only forecast to get to 32 degrees F..with a wind chill of 17 degrees F.

The sun is out,but it doesn't seem to help much in warming the temp up.

East-Northeast winds up to 25 MPH.

It's been hovering around freezing here in the DC area lately, but the last few days were warm. It always amazes me the way some 40 degree weather can feel cold and other times seem warm. It can't be all relative. There must be some other quality than temperature that affects feel.

Bah, that's not "disgustingly cold". It is currently 10F here, and only expected to reach a high of 19 today.

"Disgustingly cold" is when the snot in your nose freezes when you step out the door.

Up to a foot of snow overnight and tomorrow in the Denver metro.  And it's been cold so it's not going to melt as it lands.

I always think that's better, so you don't get a crust of ice under the foot of snow.

Yup, so long as it gets plowed promptly.  If not, then it either becomes impassable more quickly, or gets crushed down into a thicker layer of ice for later.
