To all TR readers around San Francisco, Chicago, and Boston

Fri Nov 28, 2008 3:41 pm

We posted this in the Smoky Back Room a few days ago and got several responses. AMD has said they'd like to invite a few more of our readers, so I'm opening it up by announcing it here. First come, first serve -- we're looking for about 10 participants per location.

AMD is planning a series of events, beginning in San Francisco, Chicago, and Boston,in which a handful of enthusiasts get to preview their new Dragon Platform technology featuring the AMD Phenom II Processor. AMD senior staff will be in attendance, and participants should get to chat with the experts and check out gaming and overclocking demos. The events will be fairly small and not open to the public. They've contacted TR and asked if some of our readers would like an invite. We can give them a short list of interested bona fide techies to be included.

So if you'll be in or around San Fran on December 5th, Chicago on December 9th, or Boston on December 12th, please PM me ASAP and I'll hook you up.

Cheers,

- Adam

Nobody ever comes to Denver

Which is strange because AMD has a small design center operating in Ft. Collins, about 40 miles north.

YES! Thanks for helping get my password problems cleared up here, (ok, it was my own stupid fault and I figured it out finally...but still thanks. ;) ), and I would LOVE to attend the Chicago event if you have any extry invites! I promise lots of picts and annoying interviews with people, it's a specialty of mine. ;)

It's on a Tuesday and a 5 hour drive.

I went to the AMD/MS tech tour when it swung through here and it was pretty cool. This will probably be fun as well.

Not that I'm close enough, but what kind of preview are we talking here? Just play with the shiny computer and go "ooo" at the framerate, or would you be expected to have interesting technical questions on design for the AMD folks?

If it's anything like the Tahoe event was, it'll be a presentation on the technology and then an open session with some systems set up with the new hardware and all the AMD people and various OEM folks walking around and you can pretty freely ask any questions of anybody. :)

They should come on up to NY sometime. After all they are opening up a Fab upstate, right near where I go to school. So maybe one day it'll happen.

Yeah, there really should be more events in NY. I used to love going to MWNY when it used to be here, but now that's gone, and there really are no big tech events that happen in the City (I've been to DigitaLife, it doesn't count ;))

I think I can make the Chicago one... Just a 2 hour drive... Maybe we can get some dinner together later and convince Scott to come to next year's BBQ. :)

Done. I hope reading instructions correctly the first time isn't part of the event, or I'll get tossed out out right away.

So we can assume we've got a car pool of sorts started for Grand Rapids area people for the Chicago one? I can seat four, and I should have fresh oil, new wipers, and possibly new tires by then, however my back seats are kind of cramped (I'll clean the dog hair off of them though ;)). Unless you want to drive, SHOES?

I don't know exact times of any of the events. But those who PM'd me will be getting an invite from AMD soon with details (probably today). If anyone else is interested, I may be able to tack on a couple more names for each event (although it's probably too late for the San Fran one).

If these go well, they're planning to host a couple more in other cities. Stay tuned.
