I need a new desk. I want contemporary-, hard edged, industrial style office furniture, kind of Ikea styled. However, I want good quality. Not that Ikea is always crappy but I want a $500+ desk that is going to last me 10+ years. Any suggestions?

Ikea sells furniture in the Scandinavian style, so any Scandinavian furniture store will have what you're looking for. I don't know of any big national chains, but there are probably some smaller single-store retailers in your area that sell what you're looking for. There are several here around the NYC area, so I figure they should pop up elsewhere as well. Be prepared to pay much more than Ikea prices at a store that sells better furniture. Teak is a wonderful thing, but it's expensive.

It's not exactly extra bland ikea style but, steelcase or herman miller office furniture on craigslist is my suggestion. Around here at least you can pick up older style desks for 100 bucks or less, with newer style office setups for your price range that'll last roughly forever.

In Florida there are a chain of stores called Scan Design. I'm not sure if there is someting similar where you live.

A friend of mine scored a sweet deal on an executive desk in the .com bust. You might be able to find extraordinary quality furniture at local auctions of such things.
