Dragmor’s International Giveaway - Now with more gifts.

Fri Dec 04, 2009 3:19 pm

Several years ago, I won the major prize (a 7950GX2) in a Tech Report giveaway. This resulted in me building a new PC to handle the card as I didn’t have anything with a PCIe slot at the time (strangely enough, I still don’t have anything with a PCIe slot now either). I used the card for about a year until other aspects of life took over and then sold the entire system to a friend.

During Tech Reports 10 year giveaway, I was saddened and slightly jealous that entrants were only eligible if they were residents of the USA or Canada. So I broached the subject of sponsoring a global giveaway at Tech Report with Scott and Adam. For reasons that are sane and logical, this is not going to happen - lets just say that we live in a complicated world.

So why am I posting this thread? The answer is that although Tech Report cannot hold a Global Giveaway, I can. So I am. I’m a big fan of SSD’s they provide a general speed boost that other upgrades don’t. I wouldn’t build a new PC without one; in fact I just built an office PC with one as its only drive. So the giveaway’s gift is a 64GB SSD with an Indilinx controller (brand to be based on price). I will either buy the SSD in Australia and ship it to the winner OR if it is cheaper buy the SSD in the winners country and have it shipped from there.

To enter, simply respond to this thread with your username and general location e.g. Dragmor, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. You must also agree to and abide by the terms and conditions listed at the end of this post.

All entrants will have their names written on a piece of paper and placed into a box. The winner will be chosen by my 11 month old son, the first piece of paper that he grabs and tries to eat will be the winner.

I’m going to try and get this done before New Years so entries to the Giveaway close at Midnight on Friday the 11th of December Australian Eastern Standard Time (currently GMT + 11 hours).

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
1. Entrants may not reside in the USA or Canada. The reason Dragmor is doing this is to give something to those that couldn’t enter the Tech Report 10 Year Anniversary Giveaways.
2. This giveaway is void where prohibited by law. It must be legal for the entrant to entry a Giveaway or similar game of chance in their country. If this is not legal or the entrant is not sure if this is legal then the entrant may not enter the giveaway.
3. The entrant must be legally allowed to own an SSD in their country.
4. Dragmor is responsible for the SSD cost, the sales tax in the country/state that it is purchased and shipping. Dragmor is not responsible for any taxes or duties, damage in shipping, damage caused by using the prize with other products, or health issues caused by the product. Entrants must accept and pay for these costs to receive the gift.
5. Entrants must be a member of the Tech Report with over 500 forum posts when the Giveaway closes. This is a gift for the community.
6. The winning entrant must be willing to disclose their physical address and any other details required for the delivery of the SSD via a PM on these message boards or via email.
7. Entrants forfeit any rights to take legal action against Dragmor or support legal action that deals with the matter of this giveaway against Dragmor.
8. Dragmor, his employees and his immediate family may not enter and are not eligible to win.
9. Entrants may not bribe Dragmor’s baby boy, doing so will result in disqualification from the Giveaway.

To restate, this is a private giveaway being carried out by Dragmor. The Tech Report website, its staff, sponsors, etc are in no way involved. All comments and complaints, etc should be directed to Dragmor.

-------------------------------------------------
Changes as of 09/Dec/2009
-------------------------------------------------

There are now three gifts and there will be three entrants receiving them.

1st Gift is a 64GB SSD with an Indilinx controller. 500 posts required.
2nd Gift is 320GB (size to be confirmed) SATA harddisk donated and shipped by idchafee. 50 posts required.
3rd Gift is a Thermalright LGA775 Bolt-Thru-Kit, this piece of kits is great for people that dislike the Intel push pin heatsink system. 50 posts required.

An entrant may choose to forgo their gift and receive the lower gift or no gift. This means that if an entrant does not want their gift they in give another entrant a shot at it.

You're also in the USA, unless Chicago moved recently. I can't enter either, but I'm glad that this sort of thing is being done.

Awesome!

Pretty limited pool of entrants though; congrats to whoever gets it. I keep toying with the idea of getting one for my Macbook but haven't quite convinced myself it's worth the price.

Hence the ineligibility? It doesn't say anywhere that if you've won previously you can't now.

I figure 20+, but if we don't get there I'll lower the post count.

That's awesome of you dragmor, especially since its for regulars. I just hope this doesn't cause an army of spammers to infiltrate our premises trying to reach 500 (should probably add another term and condition, entrants must have joined TR before December 4rd?). :D

Edit: Note, i'm not entering, just stating a few things.

This sucks. How come the rest of the world gets all the love, and we get nothing? I call foul. Mods, can you delete this thread, as it is exclusionary and unfairly biased based upon location!

It is not really global, more like "rest of the world".

If you don't want me to lower the post count then we will need at least 20 entrants.

Wow. :o You are an alright bloke, that's what you are! :-D

I gotta ask though, is there another reason for this except just being so awesome to TR community? Like, some big happy occasion? Considering rule number 9 and all.. Or perhaps I've missed something in the forums. Or that happened long ago. Oh well, just wondering.. Forget it, missed that part about the 11 month son drawing the winner. I won't bribe anyone, promise. :-D
