Any Doctor Who fans read the leaked scripts?

Tue Jul 15, 2014 3:07 pm

For those that didn't know, not only did five scripts get leaked over the weekend, but so did a B/W work print of the first episode. I read some non-spoiler reviews about the scripts - it seems S8 may help us forget/get over losing Matt Smith easier - and we, the fans, have something to really look forward too. While I enjoy some broad hints/suggestions/spoilers in small doses, I couldn't bring myself to read or watch any of the material when given the chance. It premieres August 23rd and that day will be one of the two best Saturdays since Christmas.

So, did anyone give into temptation?

I'm avoiding them. I'd rather enjoy the show when it airs.

From the teasers they are showing they may be going old school and taking him slightly Valiard (an evil future doctor)
The Davros teaser was curious.

Wait... there's another evil Doctor other than the John Hurt 'evil' one? Wow....I've only watched since 2005 and had never heard of Valiard. That opens up an industrial can of worms.

Yeah, even some of the Steven "I wish people wouldn't post spoilers" Moffat posts contain more spoilers than I would prefer at times. I guess sometimes the only way is to cut oneself off from the net. And cable. Too great of feat is that.

The Valeyard comes from the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) era and the serial "The Trial of a Time Lord".

Show hasn't aired in so long I was starting to wonder if it still existed.

So it does, you say? Cool. Though if we switch to Dish I might not have BBCA.

Which causes leaks.

Ditto. The scripts are only half the story; I enjoy the show as much for the way the actors portray the characters as for the script. Reading the scripts misses out on the portrayal; I'm happy to read them, but only after I've seen the episode in question.

Don't forget old - 2005+ - eps on PBS (if in US, that is.)

John Hurts is not evil... just a warrior.

The idea of the Valeyard (thanks for the spelling correction) was that he was a 1 season (Trial of a Timelord) villain from the 6th doctor. He was supposed to somewhere in the 11-12 regeneration when a timelord could only regenerate 12 times (2013 Christmas special ties that up nice issue up nicely for fans of the early 1963-1989 Doctor Who fans). At some point in his timeline (in a timeline that the Time War does not exist) the doctor stops caring and wants to keep living... to the point of trying to steal his own earlier self's remaining regenerations (nice little paradox (or pair-a-docs :-P ) there.
