TR BBQ ~XII~ 8/15/2015 - Official Thread

Mon Nov 03, 2014 12:19 pm

Official Date 8/15/15

Reservations for the cottage are opening up early this year so even though it's slightly premature we need to talk dates for the summer... Based on a rather significant birthday of a certain VIP I'm thinking August 8th, 15th or 22nd would be best with the 15th probably being the best option of the three. Speak up though, we want to give as many people as possible a chance to attend (and Sheldon isn't really that important). :D

UPDATE 7/19/15: Get your shirt on!

This year we're doing a BBQ first and offering custom designed t-shirts to attendees as a fundraiser to help cover costs. The only way to get a shirt is to make a donation to the BBQ using PayPal (no freebies, not even for VIPs), the shirt is your gift thanking you for the donation. After you donate send me a PM confirming what you want (size, style, qty) and the email address/name the donation will come through as. I'll list the shirts people are getting in this post as they come in so everyone can confirm I've got it right. Shirts are only available to attendees.

The deadline for ordering the shirts is the end of the month, Friday 7/31 at noon.

Image - $34 for Natural & Royal Blue Print (all sizes)
ImageImage

Image - $37.50 for Royal Blue Tye-Dye & Chocolate Brown Print (all sizes)

Shirt get!
thegleek - 1x tye-dye XL
The Frobozz's - 1x tye-dye XL & 1x 2XL
The Shoe's - natural 1x L & 1x XL
idchafee - tye-dye 1x XL & 1x S
Captain Ned - 1x tye-dye 4XL
Damage - tye-dye 1x L
Milo Burke - natural 2x M
zgirl - 2x natural L & 1x tye-dye M
just brew it! - 1x tye-dye L

UPDATE 6/16/15: Ok time to get this thread whipped into shape.

1) Let's start with parking, we're going to do the same thing we did last year, it adds some walking but makes things less complicated overall. Read this post and this post from last year and you'll have all the details.
2) I plan to have the same semi-live photo gallery updates as last year, they will be here: http://bbq.dr_fish.speedymail.org/2015/
3) Our normal sequence of events will be in place too:
Friday Evening - Pre-Party 8/14
Anyone that gets into town early and wants to hang out at the cottage and eat some pizza/sushi is welcome!
Saturday Early Afternoon - Main Event 8/15
You know the drill, show up between 11:00 and 1:00 and be ready to feast around 2:00.
Saturday Night - TR After Dark 8/15
FIRE is the one word to describe this part of the BBQ. We'll be sitting around one on the ground and shooting various kinds into the air.
Sunday Morning - Lakeside Breakfast 8/16
Anyone still in the area is invited to come back to the cottage and enjoy an informal breakfast and help put the finishing touches on the cleanup process.

...and now we start the attendee list!

OK, experiment here. Does this get more responses stickied (and not on the front page "Top Threads") or not.

De-stickied for the moment with a recent post to push it to the top.

I had two options with you and The Cup, I chose the flushing one because your face was identical in both. :)

All three dates work for me. Right now my summer is going to be rather uneventful this year but I will keep all three weekends open in August until I hear a date.

As of now all 3 are open for me. However there is a chance that I will have a conflict on the 22nd; that is one of the possible dates for the annual craft beer festival here in neighboring Plainfield IL, where I have given brewing demos since the fest's inception. I'm guessing that the 29th is more likely for the fest, so we're probably OK regardless... but the brewing demos have priority (sorry).

Has a Canadian member shown up to this yet?

Every year I end up not being able to go because of stuff coming up.

I will make any one of those three days work. Thankfully, most of my younger cousins have had their weddings in the past few years, so this summer should be empty.

I shall be in attendance, Wasson Cup in tow. I forgot it on the Disneyworld trip, but I still have some decent pics of its travels.

I visited the cottage/beach a few days ago, took photos while there, and Fish suggested I post some here for those curious as to the current status of the BBQ's favorite venue...

Image

So, yeah, that's the drop down from the beach's main level of sand to the actual shoreline. The lake still has a decent coating of ice, so the shoreline might change a bit before summer arrives, but probably not by much. I am unsure if our cottage "committee" has plans to alter this situation at all, so prepare for another steep climb this year if you plan to play in the lake!
And the rest of the short album, for those interested: http://imgur.com/a/lfZa7 (cuz doggies!)

I really like this, the traveling cup!
Need to make a thread here or a page of the cups travels, updated yearly.

Four months to go, holy cow! It's almost time to start getting this thread all organized and stuff already. Any cool ideas or things you've seen on the web we should try out for this year? I'm still kind of burned out on giant rafts but I've been considering alternative "set pieces" :) I'll probably stick with the same wifi and camera setup as last year for steaming, of course now that TR does Twitch maybe Scott will want to do some streaming of his own??? I could always whip up a hat cam for him... ;)

its cuz i'm balls deep into the RETRO ARCADE hobby - i own 7 large arcade uprights (the real deal) and all of these use those older crt monitors.

games i own so far are: missile command, ms pac man, centipede, pole position, burgertime, crazy climber, and space invaders deluxe

NEW TR BBQ "SET PIECE" SUGGESTION

Gleek's Mobile Arcade - a renovated school bus decorated 80's style and filled with meticulously restored arcade cabinets and a killer sound system. Available for hire at your event (also he DJs).

I'd Kickstart that!

I intend to be there unless unforeseen circumstances arise. The brew fest/demo I volunteer at is the weekend after, so that gets the primary potential conflict out of the way. Hopefully I can get off my ass and put together a pile of stuff to sell/trade/give. As usual I won't require a bed in the cottage or bunkhouse, but would take one if there's an unexpected cancellation. Last year I just unrolled a sleeping bag on a couch; the year before that I pitched a tent out on the lawn. No worries!
