I agree, this bothers me as well. The RNG is just brutal.
I like Darkest Dungeon but I haven't played it very much. It's basically an easier/slower-paced version of FTL... you're still going to lose, just as a later time and with more invested in the game. The ability to run more than one adventuring group at a time signals that it's *possible* to have a game continue after a bunch of losses, but no game I've played thus far has been recoverable.
