My anecdote isn't data, but it seems like the crashes have tapered off after the last patch or two. It's so psychotically pretty.

I have to say, playing this on Vulkan with blistering frame rates on Ultra was a fantastic experience.

The difficulty of Hurt Me Plenty was mostly pretty easy except for about 3 rooms that kicked my butt. Most bosses required 1-2 deaths to understand the best way to avoid their mechanics... a great experience at a moderate difficulty rating.

Once I fix the cooling fan arrange on my PC so my new graphics card doesn't get so toasty, I'll be hitting it again on the higher difficulty rating to see if I'm an good or just garbage.

I like the game way more than I expected to considering I wrote Doom 3 off for several years, finally bought it, played a few missions, and wrote it off again.

I'm not sure I'd say I like iD yet, but I liked Rage too so they're growing on me. (Didn't like Quake 1-3 either.)

Stylin. Considering I feel like I've only really played Destiny an The Division in a long while it's good to have some new stuff goin on.

The big firefight where you drop down into a lab and there's a Mancubus on the operating table, is really problematic. I tried 3 or 4 times last night and always either died (my fault) or crashed to desktop when I was about to clear the area (not my fault). ugh...!

hmm that is odd. It was very stable for me.
I vaguely remember one crash.

Fixed an issue where users experienced a crash to desktop while using current NVIDIA drivers. (PC)

Thank goodness!

I've beaten the game but I do plan to go through it again, as well as play the classic levels. Those are HARD with the new enemies and considerably limited ammo supply.

I tried an old version only, released in 1993. It rised a revolution in gaming world. And it's still fun to play.
I absolutely adored the game ever since I was young. Honestly, it's the game that every gamer should play at least once in their lives.

Hey, I realize this may constitute necrothread bumping, but it bears mentioning: the Denuvo copy protection's supposed to be stripped out with the next update. This could be Really Good News for Linux users with Wine! At a guess Mac users are probably SOL since the OpenGL API support's still stuck in the doldrums of 4.1. If MoltenVK is up to the job, that may be an avenue worth pursuing (especially if you can spare $150 for a license and effectively subsidize Apple's own negligence), but Wine -> Vulkan -> MoltenVK -> Metal leaves a lot of potential points of failure. Guess we'll find out in the next few weeks.

Playing Doom right now (about 3 hours total).  I have no idea how this game can possibly require a ~60GB install size.  The graphics aren't the best by today's standards.  Everything is "on rails" so the dev's had a localized amount of terrain/leveling to generate.  I just hate the size of games these days, especially when the >4x game size seems to add nothing compared to "pre-Titanfall-era games"

The game is very one dimensional.  Run and gun is your only option, no stealth, little/no sniping.  There is very little in the way of creative killing.  Every enemy you kill basically has to be a shoot to stun and melee finish or else you constantly run out of ammo.  I just don't get all the hype.  I'll keep playing for now.  Hopefully it gets better.  Like I said, I've only played campaign for 3 hours.  But seriously, if a game cant capture a player's interest in the first 3 hours of play (and I'm already bored), you've done something wrong.

The multiplayer component has unique maps and the level editor has unique assets. That totals up to 60~ gigs when combined with the single player.

I almost finished the game and though it was the first really fun Doom game since Doom 2.  So maybe there is no problem with the game, it's just not your thing to begin with.

Disappointed that there won't be any single-player DLC. I hope it made enough money to warrant a sequel.

@DPete27 - I don't think it was their goal to break a lot of new ground. The first DOOM was the original "run and gun" FPS, and it sounds like (I haven't played this new one yet) they've basically done what amounts to a reboot of the original, updated to take advantage of the capabilities of modern consoles and PCs. So I would expect the gameplay to be a little dated; that's likely intentional.

I wouldn't say it's a strict rehash of the original at all. Doom '16 has a lot of verticality - it's even more important to stay mobile than it was in the Dooms of yore, and it's common to leap and climb to higher ground to put some distance between you and monsters, or ambush them. Do play it, especially since Denuvo was removed and some clever boffin's gotten it running very nicely in Wine.

If all goes according to plan I won't need to mess with Wine. Looks like I will be putting together the first Windows gaming build I've done in quite a while: http://techreport.com/news/31178/tr-12- ... st=1014872

I get all that.  And yes, Doom 2016 feels very much like the original (compared to say Doom 3).  Unfortunately the original was perhaps one of the first FPS genre (Duke Nukem also) so back then the concept was awesome.  Just like many old movies and NES games from that era were awesome but are lackluster by today's standards. Today we live in a world over-saturated with run-and-gun FPS games to the point where games really have to offer something truly creative to stand out.  So while creating a proper reboot of a >20 year old game may tickle many gamer's nostalgia bone, I'm not sure that automatically qualifies it as a "good" game.  I did play the original Doom, and I played Doom 3 (which I enjoyed as a horror game and gave me many goosebump/hair-raising moments although I never finished it).

And yes, I do consider FPS to be my favorite type of games, but these days I enjoy more mentally engaging games where I can mix run-and-gun with problem solving and stealth when I desire.

I think the problem is the number of enemies at any given time is so little compared to the original. Most probably bec its released in console also.

I just updated to AMD Driver 17.2.1 today and now Doom won't launch. Unfortunately I didn't launch the game before the update to know if the driver update was the culprit. Anyone else having this problem?

Anyone else still playing this? I've been playing a few rounds of multiplayer a couple of times a week, still great fun though lately the other players aren't high level ... and then tonight I fired up Steam and found it needs a 34.7 GB download :-?

Apparently, everyone who didn't pay gets the DLC for free now, not sure what I think about that beyond hoping it brings in more players.

DOOM (2016) PC Game is insanely addictive. I bought it and played it for 6 hours straight, and there's still plenty of the game left.
