Except I play with GZDoom and either Brutal Doom or Project Brutality these days, for extra over-the-top violence, enemies, and weapons. Nothing like it for relaxing after a stressful day; it's like comfort food for my pleasure center.

Plus the one-liners in PB are hilarious. They're lifted straight from the Doom comic book and are as cheesy as a very cheesy thing indeed. "I've got a handful of vertebrae and a headful of mad!"

The gamplay is nothing like the original Dooms expect IP content. It is just another uninspired shooter that tries to play the nostalgic card on old fans but it is actually catered towards younger COD-BF4 types (regenerating/easy health, tons of ammo, trigger-fingering/spray and pray, forced action sequences etc.)

Zenimax and Bethesda is just cashing out on the IP. The entire thing is a repeat of Serious Sam: BFE. The MP mode is a joke is completely overshadowed by today's competition.

gameplay is extremely close to the original doom except the ability to "glory kill" which I thought I'd hate but is actually well implemented.

All of the modernization is very well done. It feels like doom of old to me.
However, just because I'm right doesn't mean you have to agree with me. :)

Seems like a more-or-less pure update of DOOM 2 to me. Which would be a good thing.... but my reflexes aren't what they were 10 years ago, let alone when the original 2.5D games were around.

I've been playing FPSes since the genre was inchoate, and Doom has been a fixture in my entertainment. So it gives me immense, genuine pleasure to say that single player Doom 2016 is the best thing id's made in 20 years, full stop. It's hard, and fast, and full of secrets, and even thinking about it at work on <6 hours of sleep is making me giddy. It gets the fundamental groove of Doom down while taking the gameplay in new directions, and incorporates a story that's sufficient to intrigue but rarely enough to interfere. Everything I've heard suggests that it'll only get better from here. I may have found the best single player FPS since F.E.A.R.

Doom '16 runs like a champ on a GTX 970 with FX-8320, and spreads ~30-33% load across all eight cores evenly in Win10 x64. It did rather less well on a GTS 450 with an i3 2120; the poor old card just isn't up to the job, and by the Foundry level framerates dipped below 20 too much to be enjoyable. How I wish I still had a spare GTX 660 or Radeon 7850 laying around for that box, now.

One of my earliest gaming memories when I was like five was finding Ultimate Doom hidden by my uncle in C:\WORK\ in Norton Commander.

I'm excited to pick up a good fast paced shooter, last game that came close to scratching that itch was Painkiiller and Serious Sam, but Doom just has had its own charm over htem for me

Given my old memories of Doom and Quake and what is being said here I might need to pick this up (at its first sale).

Gotta see how it runs on my i7-860/HD6970 at 1440.

You're probably good on the i7, but I would not expect the 6970 to manage very well... It's not officially supported, and as far as I know id was still working to get Crossfire/SLI support in.

My 970 manages 1440p pretty cheerfully, but if these benchmarks serve as an accurate guide, you probably won't manage 1080p very well. But as your handle says...

I will pick it up and love it, but probably going to wait till I have a hot new 1080GTX in my hands as I want to play this game at 60fps, 1440p, maxed out.

Playing Stellaris at the moment anyway having finished off DSIII, so that'll keep me busy for a good while till the 1080gtx is out.

Anyway, the game is pretty cool and I was really hyped about it initially but I've run into some performance problems and it's irritating me. Game runs well on AMD's latest (Tonga and Fiji), and like butt on anything older, which means my 290X is performing worse than GTX 960s. Not cool, AMD. Or Id, whoever. It ran gloriously in the multiplayer beta, so I'm not sure what changed. There's been some fuss about the game using OpenGL 4.3 on AMD and 4.5 on NVIDIA, but the Fury cards are killing it (performance-wise) and still using 4.3, so I don't think it's that.

I'd really like to hear from Id or AMD about the performance issue, but the GAME itself is great. I really feel like they took the classic Doom game and updated it for modern sensibilities without changing too much. If you took me from the late 90s and showed me this game, I definitely would have recognized it as Doom. Plus, the visuals and the music are amazing. I MIGHT like it even better than Rage! O(≧∇≦)O

It would take you 2,363 continuous hours or 98 days,11 hours, and 35 minutes of gameplay to complete your Steam library.
In this time you could travel to Venus one time.

Yah. 35% is selling themselves short. 35% on AMD CPU system maybe. Kyaha! (*´ω`*)

My framerates quadrupled or more. I would say it is "fixed" ... even tho my friend with a 980 is still seeing better performance than me. But I got over 100 FPS most of the time in 2560x1440 high-ultra so I ain't complaining!

By the way, people on Reddit were saying that this driver also fixed their GCN 1 cards like 7970s and 270Xes, so if y'all got one of those check it out!

The biggest change in the driver update seems tied to shadowing performance. My next challenge: seeing how my home theater PC with a Radeon 7750 handles it...

There must be a bug with Vsync turned on for AMD drivers or DOOM. I flipped Vsync off, and surprise frame rates went way up with the High Quality presetting, lowest I saw was 50 FPS. I switched over to the Ultra Quality presetting, and the lowest frame rate I've seen so far in the Foundry was 37-40 FPS. Running my 7950 at 1125 MHz for the GPU, and 1735 MHz for GDDR5.

Ultra Quality Vsync Off:

High Quality Vsync Off:

Edit: Don't see much difference between High Quality, and Ultra Quality myself.

If you are curious I've been streaming it a fair bit lately! Let me know via PM if you want to watch! It's just gameplay, no annoying facecam or donation begging. I also use Youtube Gaming, so it's 720p60 with nice quality. (*´ω`*)

Thanks for the tip! Although it's $39.99. :)

I had a GameStop gift card so I picked up a copy on release day...but, I have my Steam Library shared with my oldest boy and he always wants to play it when I'm playing it. Or he's already playing it when I want to play it. At that price I didn't have a problem getting another copy and adding it to his Steam Library so it isn't an issue anymore!

With regards to the game...it's awesome! Plays buttery smooth, the graphics are gorgeous, and the action is fast paced.
