Damn, Disney needs to take some hints from these people.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Well, it is Bioware. Storytelling is what they do best. Great cinematics, too.

It oughta look good, SW:TOR is the most expensive video game in history with a bigger development budget than most Hollywood blockbusters. And, yeah, Bioware understands storytelling.

What I can't believe is that WoW is number 42 on that list.

It will be nice if they could bring it over to Linux, but I guess that is not to happen anytime soon. Then again KOTR II: The Sith Lords has been ported over, so who knows.

This is probably a dumb question.... err...

But is this an expansion for the existing MMO or is this is a standalone singleplayer RPG? (i kinda ignored the MMO, but would be keen on an RPG).

Expansion.

I think I stalled out around level 15-ish the last time I tried SW:TOR. Coming from WoW, I always felt like there was too much story and not enough action (I mostly wanted to thrash bad guys with a lightsaber).

But now that I'm taking another break from WoW...maybe I'll give this a shot again just for the story.
On second thought, let's not go to TechReport. It's infested by crypto bull****.

I agree....they need to make movies, but unfortunately Disney paid a lot to have control and that is too bad. I am sure Bioware has to pay Disney to do anything with the Star Wars...that is a damned shame since I would prefer to watch this over Disney's "has to be kid friendly Movies" They should be rated R so they could be free to do pretty much anything. I  was Happy at 1st Disney acquired Star Wars / Lucas arts or whatever is was called but now I am afraid it is going to be a joke, But I hope I am wrong IMHO.

I did not google the whole Star wars Franchise ETC. So I could be totally wrong

I've always been a subscriber, I come back to it every four months or so just to catch up on the story. One cool thing they did was make all dungeons solo-able. You get a suped-up companion droid that can heal and or tank. And its because of that I play it like an RPG.

Actually EA (which owns Bioware) has a 10 year license for any SW related games. The stuff that Bioware does in TOR is, as of right now, non-cannon. I say as of right now because all it would take is for one of the Disney licensed authors or screen writers to reference something in TOR to make it cannon. And they sort of have with a few planets already referenced in the newer novels.

But why?  MMOs are huge/expensive and the Linux market is both tiny and temperamentally opposed to software subscription fees/microtransactions.

If you can't afford a Windows license for your gaming PC, what are the odds that you'll pay for an MMO?

TOR was a dream coming true after famous RPG games knights of the old republic. After the first trailer, which was awesome too by the way, I pre-ordered (mistake) the game and participated the beta. After 3 months of casual MMO play (read, sleepless nights, zombie work days) I quit for good. I was coming from almost pure PvP/RvR (realm vs. realm) Warhammer Online and expecting heavy PvP, aka, poke bad guys with lightsaber in the head
I was deeply disappointed. The game was not really that bad on PvP but the playerbase's main tendency was hell. There were occasional incidents of groups of players meeting in a PvP zone and killing eachother in turns for PvP points&gear to use them in PvE instances. The balance between 2 realm was off and skills needed to be reworked. A Bioware classic, Mages and ranged attacks to rule them all, was ruining the balance and the game.
So, I quit. After the trailer, I reactivated my account and found out it was so old, it's actually tied to my yahoo mail :)
