Yeah I used the Shotgun build:

Biotic Charge: Radius->Weapon Synergy->Barrier
Incendiary Ammo: Damage->Headshots->Explosive Burst
Nova: Radius->Half Blast->Pierce
Fitness: Durability->Barrier Recharge->Fitness Expert
Assault Mastery: Damage->Weight Capacity->Shotgun Damage

Charge, Nova, stagger as many as possible and Follow up with judicious Shotgun usage.

Miranda never survived in ME3 for me- and apparently there's a lot more to her than I realized.

Yeah it pains me that I lose anyone.

There is a ton of stuff on all the ME's that are triggered by certain conversations and/or actions. It really is true to form for BioWare.

Interesting, it looks like I took the perfect team entirely on-accident. My Shepard is typically a Soldier (RP reasons, originally, then I started to like the class), so I'd always be sure to use Tech/Biotic team member whenever possible.

For my next run, should I got Biotics-only, Tech-only, or a mix of the two?

I'd say that it depends on difficulty level. On Hardcore and Insanity, everything has an extra layer of protection, and all biotic CC abilities (lift, push, singularity etc) are damn near useless until you strip those off. So, you need the ability to bring down shields, barriers, and armor in your team composition. I don't really consider team-member weapons to be of much use at all, in any of the games really, so to me it always came down to what abilities various teammates brought to the fight.

I brought my character through both ME1, 2 and 3 from start to finish with pretty much completionist runs, as far as you considering going either paragaon / renegade can be completionist to get an optimal run through story wise. I did cheat a bit in what I needed, because basically I did it to experience as many of the various quest and choices as I could before stuff going down the drain. No matter what happened, it was one hell of a ride and decisions.

ME2 and ME3 both needed a new game mode that would randomize Shepard's past for new players or a different new game+ experience. From a developer stand point, it would have also paid off as more people would have seen more content. It is my understanding that few people saw Wrex in ME3 because he had to survive in ME1 and make it to the third game via save file imports.

Possibly/probably; I saw Wrex to the end, every time, but I (like most you) am not typical. My first run was hard Paragon, and I got a feel for those options pretty quick; if you knew how Bioware likes to do things going in (a KOTOR veteran etc.), then you knew you needed to kind of be one or the other.

But I'm going to agree with the idea that most people didn't do that, and couldn't save Wrex, at least the first time; hopefully, they saw that the option was there, and got an understanding of what'd it take to open it up on subsequent playthroughs.

I only realized that it was possible to save Wrex in ME1 after checking out the character info on a wiki page (not sure which one).

To ME1's benefit, I cared enough to read up on the characters outside the game.
To ME1's detriment, possible story branches weren't always very clear.

ME2, OTOH, was a lot better in that regard as long as you didn't mind buying all the DLC.

I got the Paragon and Renegade achievement simultaneously right before fighting Saron at the end of the game. Got enough points through choices for each side through that dialog tree. It was a year or two later that I realized that I was skipping part of the battle with him via my dialog choices.

By the third game, I really don't think many knew of Wrex due to the series picking up so many new players on 2 and 3. People who played from the first and loved it were pleasantly rewarded though.

Yeah, in one of the preview trailers there's a throwaway line "I have a Krogan". I want to play the game just to see where/why that line was used.

If you guys preordered and predownloaded then you should be playing already. I think you need to launch it by the seperate "trial" launcher, but you should have 10 hours of pre launch gameplay available.

I was going to hold off for now, but based on the Ars Technica review it seems right up my alley. Shame about Origin, but that ship hasn't just sailed but isn't even on the horizon any more.

I guess I'll wait for a sale and pick up ME3 as well since I'm the only person on Earth that doesn't care about EA firing the main writer / the cobbled together story.

Only problem with the prior games is that the DLC for the PC is crazy expensive and never goes on sale.

Andromeda is fine. So far, not amazing, but it's definitely more Mass Effect. I'm about 12 hours in and on the second planet.

Try going through the first game without Garrus (surprisingly he is optional) then going through the second game. There is some rarely seen dialog there and then some of the more common things you'd encounter with him about past stories don't happen. In other words, it makes Garrus run more calibrations.

Mind officially blown. Thanks for the tip, will have to look up a video of that because I can't imagine how awkward that meeting in ME2 must be without meeting in ME1.

So far definitely liking the game, between computer builds/transplants and driving all over and setting up, testing, and resetting moms new computer (cause whoever heard of something just working ootb ;) ) and all that I'm kinda half-wiped. Still have two comps to re-assemble and all that too. Eventually.

The first planet is weird, but interesting. I'm about to finally hop off it.

Liking everything about it so far aside from a few niggles.

Character creation is more limited. I know they did that on purpose to get your family to look alike, but I miss the vast customization, and the hair styles still suck.

Having 3 powers at your disposal instead of 8 seems very limiting, especially given how many are offered.

Besides that, the gameplay is great, the visuals are beautiful (have everything turned up to ultra 3440x1440), and hey, it's more Mass Effect!

What's really missing is a good Mohawk. Every character I've ever created in a game has had a killer Mohawk. Don't judge me, its just my character creation thing.

This is one thing that's got me thinking, because I literally use just three powers: Concussive Shot, Overload, and Incinerate.

That's it.

I've dumped points into Assault Rifles and Sniper Rifles, which is all I carry, and started dumping points into the passives in the Combat/Soldier and Tech classes. Don't have much use for biotics.

So I'm not really sure what to make of it. I can, by myself, burn down everything I come across (on Normal). I'm wondering if the game is even worth replaying at this point.
