Destiny 2 Beta

Thu Aug 31, 2017 10:10 am

Anyone here playing the Destiny 2 beta on PC?

I've jumped into it the past two nights and I am thoroughly impressed. The game runs butter smooth on my gaming rig with most of the settings on high and MSAA turned on at 1080p. Nice to see a well optimized PC beta for this game.

Really enjoying the actual game itself. The shooting action is pretty good, especially with the different abilities to mix things up. Tried all the classes and the offensive oriented Titan is my overall favorite in both PVE and PVP. I haven't played a shooter in a competitive PVP setting in a serious way since Halo 2, but Destiny 2 seems solid enough that I may try it again on a limited basis.

Definitely give it a try if you haven't!

I got it installed but haven't had the time to actually play it. (I never played the first one. #PCMASTERRACE) Besides I had to sell some of my millions of WoW gold on something! (That's right in-game World of Warcraft gold was used to buy a game and it was cheap too, only around 300K G!)

I heard about that. As in, you traded in 300k gold to Blizzard/Activision for the game? or you shadily sold 300k in gold to someone for $60?

Traded the 300K gold for WoW tokens which are worth 15 bucks to bnet balance; ~55 bucks. Right now the going rate for a WoW token is 157,307G. At the time I did it a WoW token was really cheap like 50k G.

You can also use your bnet balance to buy Overwatch boxes. I've done that in the past too.

Played it, but I'm not sure that it's the kind of game for me.

Ran great with G-Sync and SLI using the latest drivers without unnecessary tweaking, but man does it come across as boring.

It's like The Division, with better gameplay, but without the engaging story.

I remember when I grinded (ground?) for days to make 100g back in the day on WoW.

You thought the Division had an engaging story?

I'm excited by the idea of a shooter that I can jump into and out of for some fun when I want to. I'm not interested in a gear grind, but at least that can guide my game time.

The story wasn't really in the beta, other than the first mission obviously.

Neither was the upgrading your character or weapons really. So yeah, it was definitely a Destiny-lite experience but it was fun anyway.

As a beta it was fine but as a demo (for people who haven't played Destiny) it was a bit flat.

I can't wait. I could probably stop buying games altogether once it shows up, for at least three months....not that I will, but I could. =)

I don't know if 'engaging' is the best description, but I did finish all of the single-player content and did enjoy it. Kind of hoping for more.

As for the rest of it... that got old quick.

I'll keep my eye open for Destiny 2's story.

Tried the Beta the last couple of days. I've really enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting. Seems very well optimized, as it runs really smooth on medium graphics settings on my 7870. I was afraid I might not be able to run it at all, but that's not the case. This is probably the most well polished "beta" I've ever played. I didn't expect to enjoy the gameplay as much as I have. May have a new distraction to pull me away from Warframe for once.

The Division lost me once the whole premise turned on the use of cash on Black Friday. Literally, that would affect like 10 people in NYC. A dirty bomb would have been a better premise. But, like you, I finished the story mode too and had fun (6 months after release once a bunch of the kinks had been worked out). Once I got to the gear grind, I stopped.

With Destiny 2, I think you have to really be keen on the distinction between "story" and "lore." Seems like Destiny had more emphasis on lore that you really had to make a concerted effort to uncover. Story was minimal. Bungie has said the "story" will be better in Destiny 2, so we'll have to wait and see. Story won't make me play or not play the game. I just like the idea of being able to log on, queue up for a strike, and then being done in 20-30 minutes.
