I played Trine 2 Co-op with my brother recently. Pretty sure it was <$10 on steam (we don't typically play games that cost more than $10). I'd definitely recommend it. I think its got good play time without dragging on. There aren't a ton of upgrades/abilities, so the game really focuses on puzzle solving. Very teamwork oriented.
We played Torchlight 2 before Trine 2. Also a good game that I'd recommend. Different style than Trine 2 (not sure what your wife likes). Also a good amount of play time for <$10. Obviously this is all about player abilities and upgrades.
While it's not LAN capable, we sunk over 200 hours into Warframe (free-to-play) about 5 years ago. The devs have still been adding to it, and there's a LOT more to it than when I played. I dabbled in it ~8 months ago because my account was still active, was a little challenging to figure out what to do, kinda felt like in the pursuit of adding more content, it's become too complex, but maybe that's just me being crotchety.
Portal/Portal2 of course.
Borderlands 2
(wish my wife would play....lucky SOB)
