Wed Jul 04, 2018 2:37 pm

At least I suspect this is what's going on, anyone else? Just checking before I try reverting, thx.

Mine has been fine too.

TBH, what you're describing sounds more like an incipient hardware failure. I've had things like that happen when a graphics card was going.
Main System: i7-8700K, ASUS ROG STRIX Z370-E, 16 GB DDR4 3200 RAM, MSI GTX 1080 TI, 1 TB CRUCIAL MX500, Corsair 550D

HTPC: I5-4460, ASUS H97M-E, 8 GB RAM, GTX 970, CRUCIAL 256GB MX100, SILVERSTONE GD09B

Anything's possible, but at this point I don't think so. I think there's something going on with 1803 update/steam/nvidia drivers--might be something idiosyncratic about my system, but I'm not convinced it's hardware failure. Steam said many have been having issues with 1803 and directed me to a driver hotfix, but unfortunately this didn't resolve the issue.

It'd be a simple enough issue to test by reverting back before 1803, but unfortunately I don't have a backup image, so I'll have to format and start over if anything.

I have that combination twice - 1803, Steam, Nvidia (1060 and 960). Np. Sorry not much help. Verify game or maybe move to another drive just to see?
Be careful on inserting this (or any G34 chip) into the socket. Once you pull that restraining lever, it is either a good install or a piece of silicon jewelry.

Have you stress-tested? If not, you really ought to. Throw in Unigine Heaven or Valley for some basic graphics stress-testing and if it fails it'll also rule Steam out of the picture.

The update process might have glitched for you; sometimes that happens for no particular reason. Try uninstalling and reinstalling your drivers?

I think I got it--turned out to be multiple issues, and I'm still not sure what's up exactly.

Somehow I think Asus GPU Tweak II was involved in crashing other games...though it worked just fine prior to 1803 update. As for Hellblade, there's apparently something going on there with Unreal Engine and Nvidia drivers. Going back to 381.65 allowed me to load the game, whereas about a half dozen other more recent driver versions did nothing.

The GPU Tweak bit is pretty weird--when allowing to load at startup it'd show stuff like GPU Speed 190%, and then it'd disappear, click on presets and it'd snap to what it is supposed to. 111% for OC mode, 109% for gaming, 107% silent--and no, the user profile wasn't set to anything crazy like 190%. I haven't the slightest idea what's going on there, but just shutting it down let me load various other games minus Hellblade. Never had an issue with it before. 1803 thing, driver thing, no idea.

Thanks again, everyone.

Also, there was some intermittent issue going on with (Windows Defender, maybe?) Hellblade would fail to start, saying an error had occurred and the app was already running. Running Steam as administrator took care of that. So, in short, updating Windows and moving to the latest Nvidia drivers inadvertently broke all my games. Hellblade was extra broken due to some Unreal Engine bug that's yet to be resolved. Or at least that's the most sensible theory I've come up with searching online.
