Fallout 76

Wed Oct 17, 2018 4:27 pm

Is anyone here going to play this? A friend and I just pre-ordered our copies, if anyone else here is going to play maybe we can meet up.

I'm pretty torn. I looooooved (and pre-ordered) 3 and NV and I thought 4 was very, very mediocre. I didn't have near as much fun playing it as I used to. I'm also not certain how everything works now that they've gone "MMO." I'm just highly skeptical it'll be worth 60 bucks. I'm still considering getting it, but I'm definitely not pre-ordering and will surely be waiting for some in game footage before I decide.

Not super relevant, but I thought the graphics in 4 were....bad (even for Fallout!) for 2015.

Fallout 4 burned me so hard (Fallout 3's plot in reverse! How original!) that I'm going to skip this one.

An MMO where PvP is encouraged and almost required.
No thanks.

I dunno about anyone else, but this article made me feel a LOT better about the PvP: https://www.pcgamer.com/fallout-76-pvp-details/

I'm excited for the BETA, but if it sucks, I can still cancel my pre-order easily enough.
It is not who I am on the inside, but what I do, that defines me.

So, most (if not all?) of the BETA sessions are over I think. I still haven't ordered, but I'm also not really any closer either. One thing I will say though, Bethesda is going hard on the marketing and PR for this game. I see ads and such ALL over social media. I'm not even following the Fallout specific people/games/etc.

Feedback from a friend in the beta said that it's a trainwreck to be avoided at all costs.

Terrible idea in the first place (single-player narrative is dead in Fallout76) and it's executed abysmally; Over-promised and falling very short of the mark.

Buy it on Steam for $4.99 with all the DLC next year, if they fix it between now and then so that it's actually fun.
Congratulations, you've noticed that this year's signature is based on outdated internet memes; CLICK HERE NOW to experience this unforgettable phenomenon. This sentence is just filler and as irrelevant as my signature.

For a bit of juxtaposition, TES V: Skyrim was released 7 years ago yesterday.

(also in case anyone was wondering...
Morrowind - 01/05/2002
Oblivion - 20/03/2006)

TES 3 -> ~4 years -> TES 4 -> ~4.5 years -> TES 5 -> 7+ years and no expected release date for TES 6

Not ideal.

I’m playing it with a couple of friends and it’s not as bad as all that. I actually haven’t run into any bugs that I can remember, my biggest complaint is managing weight and being overburdened.

Yeah, seriously. The biggest issue with the game isn't a technical bug, it's this huge gameplay "bug" that they've (thankfully!) already promised to address.

And they need to address it fast, because it's "unbearable" :P

I play as well. I've encountered a few interesting bugs, the most annoying of which is hardly a problem. If you repair the Poseidon plant, the on-site power may not increase to 100 so you can't easily power the fusion core generator. You can just use a bunch of large generators or do the event 3 or 4 times which unlocks the craftable fusion generator which gives 100 power. I don't have much time, but if you find me in game I'll be standing there farming fusion cores

Since this game so heavily focuses on weapon and armor crafting, to the point that farming gear seems irrelevant, they should probably ease the storage burden of junk if nothing else. I mean, they didn't really have to require 30 different kinds of base materials, but whatever.
