Maybe finally Weps5 could retire, or at least move on to a new game. :)

Just how big was the game way back in the day? Honestly, I've never heard of the original and now I see this announcement popping up everywhere, here's just one more example out of hundreds out there : https://www.eneba.com/blog/finally-vamp ... g-in-2020/

Thus far everyone who's tried to make a World of Darkness game has failed spectacularly, usually dragging the company down with it.

Nihilistic kept on going years after Redemption, though their games weren't generally liked by critics.

Why do people pre-order? There's rarely any incentive at all, and if there *is* an incentive it's usually freemium/mtx rubbish that only serves to make the whole thing worse overall anyway.

They're not going to run out of stock! There is no need to reserve your copy!
Congratulations, you've noticed that this year's signature is based on outdated internet memes; CLICK HERE NOW to experience this unforgettable phenomenon. This sentence is just filler and as irrelevant as my signature.

Early access.
Access to beta.
sometimes physical perks.

to name a few.

Now I don't believe in pre-ordering 1 year in advance.

Although Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 will still launch in 2020, we have decided to value quality over making the Q1 launch window.

That’s very impressive, considering that the game development hasn’t been finished yet.

That doesn't change the pre-order status just the date. You will still get your game just a bit later. I prefer to get a good, full product than something done in a hurry and half-butted.

However the don't pre-order thing is also true alas from different reasons. It is true for Electronic Arts games which are the clone of a previous title in the series just with a slightly better graphics and a slightly higher price tag. Never worth the money. Vote with your wallet folks!

Never, never pre-order.

I've adopted this as a general principle for all software of any kind.

The couple of times that I have pre-ordered a game, it never ended up being a game that I played for very long. I don't think I ended up playing any of them for more than about 12 hours.

I've moved to the "wait for the first Steam sale" strategy. Enables me to skip games that looked good in the trailers but turned out to be meh, plus saves some money over launch price and avoids the inevitable launch-day-bugfest-patch-hope-it-actually-fixes-it fandango.

Especially given that most games can be purchased in a matter of minutes without even leaving your house. Worst case, it takes a few hours to download.

Very much this.

I very rarely buy new games. The newest thing I've bought in recent years was The Last Of Us Part 2 about a month or two after it came out. Part of it is that I'm cheap - games are way too expensive new, and I get the same enjoyment out of a game that is a year or two old. Part of it is that I like the fact that I can read the reviews and get the bug patches and whatever else.

I'd much rather pay $20 for something that came out last year, that I have read good reviews about, and that I know is gonna be stable; than pay $60 for something that is buggy and may or may not be any good. If there was an actual reason to buy new - good multiplayer for example - I might consider it, but I really don't play much multiplayer so that rarely comes up.

Well, this isn't looking so wonderful....

Paradox has pulled development of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 from Hardsuit Labs, delayed the game indefinitely and cancelled new pre-orders.

The new developer is doing quite well and we are happy with the progress of the project now, but it's still quite some time before we can start to talk about release dates. We prefer to give the studio a situation where they can focus fully on the game development and not having to address fans reaching out to them. So, therefore, we have so far not disclosed the name of the studio and we are very happy to keep it that way for still some time.
