Can someone who extensively beta tested this game give their honest opnion? I want to try a new mmorpg but if this does not hold up then I guess it's back to SWG.

I played it for several days and we discussed it in the Guild forum a bit, so my impressions can be read there.

Zerohexthough, he's put in a lot more time and I'm sure is a better judge of the progression of the game.

I've beta tested it for the full Open Beta and it's addictive like drugs. Yes, that's right drugs, it'll lead to you losing your job or dropping out of school, spending all you're money on monthly subscriptions until the day that you're flat broke. --Unless you have control ofcourse.

Actually, I just purchased it today and I'm really disappointed. To activate your account you need your CD key (Obviously), but also either a Credit Card or Game Card... Game Cards aren't being released until December 1st! Also, their PayPal Option is not yet available! It's so ridiculous that I'd need a credit card to play my first 30 days free... I mean why can't they leave that option of billing idle until after the 30 days? Some people may just want to play it for a month then pause their account for a bit.

Blizzard, for once you suck. They rushed this thing too fast to even allow game cards or paypal to even be available.

Thats how Star Wars: Galaxies did it......they still do it that way. I guess that has become the standard.

You don't have a checking account card with a visa or mastercard logo on it?

I'm curious about it too....although I'm still hooked on FF XI online. The Star Wars one would be cool too, but I hear it is next to impossible to be a Jedi - which would be the only reason I'd ever want to play it :D

They made it much easier to become a jedi.. but they also toned down the power because it was easier to be a Jedi... *sigh* They really need to fix the issue...

Hence the reason I am so jaded about SWG. I had hopes that Lucas was going to give Sony the boot and bring the game inhouse but that is not the case. I really wish they did not place the time line of the game between episode IV and V. They should have focused on a different age much like KOTOR.

I do miss my toon on SWG....I just wish they would fix the blatant issues.

Well off to WOW to give it a chance.....I know there is no hope for the Matrix Online.....

Let me know what you think of WoW... I'm somewhat interested... but I definitely need a guild or community that I can relate to... That's the only reason I haven't cut my ties with SWG completely... too many friends in the guild...

From the little bit that I played during the open beta, I'm impressed. I'll probably hold off on getting the retail version until the pre-paid subscription cards come out.

For subscription-based games, I think pre-paid cards is a great idea.

Hopefully WoW will have the horrid lag and server downtime under control for the release. Which is... oh, today.

Anyone playing it during the Holiday break please let us know how it's holding up. Though I'm a GW guy, any successes in the genre are good for everyone playing online MMORPG or COORPGs.

Any mmorg(wow which i just purchased, everquest), heck any online game ive played (phantasy star online im almost 99% sure) does that. It sucks. One more thing i have to goad my paranoid parents into giving me their credit card number for.

I played beta and i enjoyed it 1000x times mroe then i did everquest. I despised that game. Not saying it was a horrible game, because some people love it to death, but it wasnt for me. I like how easy it is in wow to get a char started, they explain everything as you go along, without making you feel like an idiot, lots of newbie quests. I hope the game is as fun after the 60th hour, as it is in the beginning ones. If so, itll be the bomb.

I played in both stress tests and I would highly recommend it. The best thing is that it is really easy to get started. When you start in the game you get quests right away. There are some quests that require you to complete with a group like the elite quests but for the most part you can solo if you want.

The other thing I liked is how seamless the game world is. There are hardly any loading times other than when you travel between continents or in "instances" for raid groups.

Matrix has potential. Although they are calling it beta it's more like Alpha, it's a long way off still.

WoW is quite good. But if your an experienced MMORPG player it will hold your interest for a while. It's a rush creating and playing a new character but as you get higher up in levels it's the same old crap. It's still a rush to see how much crap you can get so you can show off your E-Penis to all the other players out there. It rewards the nimrods who play 5-6 hours a day (Sorry if you are such a person) Greed still rules.

What I suggest is finding a group of regular people to play with, dont play those characters unless you are together. (Much like D&D people do it) That way the game still remains fun and your not caught up in rushing to aquire power. But then again, some people find that fun so YMMV.

I just noticed this on the main page for the world of warcraft site:

PayPal and Pre-Paid Game-Card Payments - Block on 11/23/04
Due to some unforeseen systems issues, PayPal is not currently able to accept World of Warcraft payments. However, they are working diligently with us to bring this online as soon as possible.

We are also experiencing a brief supply delay with the retail pre-paid game cards. The game cards will be ready to ship this coming Monday, November 29 and should begin appearing in stores where World of Warcraft is sold shortly thereafter. We apologize for any inconvenience and will provide additional information as soon as it is available.

On a similar note stay AWAY from their forums unless you love a junior high troll fested cluster f#ck. The main page and the server status page are a good source of news though.

That's the nice thing about Guild Wars. It doesn't matter if you play 6 hours a day or a few hours a week, the game is designed to eliminate grind and reward the skilled player. And it works.

well after playing WoW for four hours last night, half of that playing with the damn settings and designing macros, and changing the toolbars; I finally got down to brass tacks and went exploring. I can say one thing that WoW is much easier for the soloist than SWG. I am sure WoW has its Deathwatch bunker but for now the grind did not seem a grind.

Maybe its the newness of the game but it was wonderful. Graphics and all. Even the creatures I was slaying were dropping decent loot. Nothing legendary but stuff I could get 20 copper pieces out of really fast.

Now I have to find a mature guild....

oh and one complaint, no houses? where the heck are guilds suppose to have meetings and hoard their loot?

Anyways more on WoW later as I play more.

BTW: my toon is Óin an Elf warrior.

Edit: I am on the Lothar server

The guild recruitment section of the wow website is not too troll fested and is a good place to find out about guilds.

The user owned homes were something they were talking about but looks like they will add later on. I can't imagine the amount of gold it would take to buy one. Just to buy a single mount is something like 40 gold and you have to be at least level 40.

Did you have a queue at all on that server?

I think I'll check back with you in a couple months to find out how the game is going after a while... These games hold my interest until I take a break for a week or two, and then I don't feel like playing any more...

WoW is VERY solo friendly. You can actually solo your way to 60 without much trouble. In fact, the first person to hit 60 on the Beta PVP server did just that.

Make sure you're always doing a quest. It's MUCH faster than just killing stuff.

Agreed, I solo'd almost the whole time I played in the Open Beta. If fed my anti-social online persona quite a bit. ;)

Zerohex, have you participated in any of the large scale PvP yet? If so, how does it compare to DAoC RvR?

Nothing larg scale, but I've had a few skirmishes. It's fun. A friend of mine played closed beta and he really enjoys the PvP, and he was a pretty hardcore RvRer in DAoC.

I'm sure it's possible but would take a very long time. Some of the elite quests are impossible solo unless you level up 7 or 8 levels higher then go back.

Can't say about WoW....but EQ2 rocks, has almost completely pulled me away from EQ

EQ2 has a serious amount of quests....actually they're the best way to get exp....other than the world EQ2 isn't really all that much like EQ

I've spent some serious time playing the last week or so during my vacation. It will be really nice when they add the PVP battlegrounds so we can have a proper alliance vs horde battle. The launch had some glitches but luckily they added about 20 or more servers and things are pretty smooth now.

So far I have a level 21 troll hunter with mining and engineering professions and I still have a long list of quests to do. If anyone is playing on the burning blade eastern server let me know.
