Jon, you didn't mention DoD, in fact, I don't remember anyone mentioning it.

Don't think just because I haven't listed some other games I haven't played them. I still think UT2004 kicks ass. Howver, having played Painkiller, Doom, Doom 2, Hexen, Call of Duty, both Serious Sams, both Half Lives and even the hybrids like Deus Ex and System Shock, none of them have ever reminded me of the fact that I'm clicking a moving button.

Playing Doom 3 changed all that. That game practically ruined the experience for me. And so far, no game has ever revived my interest in the genre again.

What about games like splinter cell, I find them a great break from the usual shoot 'em ups.

I miss the old school games that were just fun to play. I have been playing a game like geometry wars on my laptop called mono or something. Great simple game that you can play again and again and again.

I wish someone would do a good galaga/r-type/etc type game. They could use 3d objects, just make it a side or top scroll game. Maybe add a bit of "dept" to the game field, just not make it a 3D world.

The old school contra type games (esp super contra with the over head view) are ripe for re-development too. I am sick of FPS games, ever since I bead Quake II... although Halo did add some fun back to that category again.

Try this. Its a 235MB file with "mortal Kombat" action that really bring back the old days.

What about DoD: S? I played it the entire free weekend and just bought it, the original DoD was just as good but needed a refresher. I love it. New obsession.

.......Civil war FPS would probably suck. Lets all stand in a line shoot, reload, shoot, reload, ... Until everyone is dead or we rush with bayonets. Sounds like great fun. I guess you could be with the cavalry still doesn't seem like a good FPS.

I think we can have a massive multiplayer game like this running on a server that can feed hundreds of players online. Immagine the legions firing, reloading ... and we can have some close combat action with bayonets.

COJ - Call of Juarez is an FPS close to such...but instead of a single shot musket you will be using a six-shooter and winchester maybe.

Sticking to the thread, i think creators are not backing down on FPS with a WWII backdrop. Check out Ubersoldier.
