My laptop is getting old too and I got tired of games slowing down after 20 mins of playing (GPU throtteling I guess).

So, I started playing old school games. I found my old copies of GTA 1 + 2 and replayed Doom I/II and Quake I/II. Most of the idSoftware games have new EXEs written by people to take advantage of new GPU features so they were actually enjoyable to play again.

I saw an article the other day about the old school game that was done in vector art and recently ported to high res. I cant, for the life of me, remember what the game is called but I remember playing it alot. It was a side scroller which you started running (like pitfall) and jumping over critters that cut you and then you get chased by a big bison or something. That was a good game back in the day!

But, yea... get Nesticle or Mame or whatever it is now and play like you had 10000000 $ of quarters.

EDIT... FOUND IT!!!! Out of this World

I have MOO3. Does anyone know where to get the earlier ones? I'd also like to ask where to get DOSBox without being forced to Google it. Also, does anyone know if the mechwarrior and mechcommander games are any good?

Has no one mentioned Total Annihilation yet? I remember seeing that play smoothly on a P200 laptop. I still fire that sucker up for some epic AI battles. (They have to be epic because the AI kinda sucks...)

Two other honorable mentions: Xcom: UFO Defense and Q2 with the "Railgun Wars" map (or pretty much any "HomersXX" map - that guy was a genius). linkage

If you're going to play Q2, I also recommend the DMManager. All you could ever need in a Q2 utility.
