fav lan games?

Mon Mar 31, 2008 8:03 pm

A few buddy's and I are gonna do some lanning but we are hardware limited to nothing really newer than Age of Empires 3. The problem with Age of Empires 3 is that its getting old so we are in need a new good LAN game. So my question for you guys is, what are some of your favourite lan games that aren't classics but not brand new either?

Dungeon Siege 2 is pretty good, and if you have a budding GM in your group, NWN is a good choice as well.

I haven't played a lan game in over a year, so I don't have the latest, but I remember the best times we had playing:
Counter-Strike Source
UT2k4
Star Wars Battlefield
Command and Conquer Generals
Star Craft

That's pretty much it. We always aim for games that everybody has or played. That, and seeing as how many computers aren't up to par, we try to keep system requirements down.
No matter how bad the new homepage sucks or how bungled the new management is...

To all the original writers/contributors and volunteers, please know that I have nothing but the deepest love for you and the work you've done.

Quake III is always a classic for me. And the multitude of custom WC: III maps (DotA, Tower Defenses, etc)

The LAN times are long gone for me but some of games that was most fun was:
Starcraft

Quake 2, mod: Gloom, give this one a try.

Codename eagle: with the right friends you don't need another game.this capture the flag game has the same creators as Battlefield but they didn't make it realistic, probably the funniest game i played (besides Gloom). map: "no man's land". btw, try the full speed pilot swap =).

Halflife, mod: day of defeat, Rocket crowbar, Richocet and natural selection

Warcraft 3.

Have you tried out SpringRTS ? Its more fun than SupCom and almost as nice looking. Plus its opensource. I very strongly recommend you give it a try.

This goes not only to the OP but to all gerbils here. Try it out; it is very good.

This. This game instantly makes everyone forget about winning and just have fun blasting eachother.

I just bought Supreme Commander for my niece.
I'm more on FPS games and I don't like RTS games
but I just wanna do the test on the disc that it's ok.
Man, this game made me like zombie today
because I slept very late last night.

Age of Empires III? Getting old?

That's a good one. My friends and I still play Age of Empires II as the incumbent, awesome LAN RTS game. As for shooter games, we usually mix it up with Call of Duty, Call of Duty 4, Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, The Ship, or Unreal Tournament 2004. We also play matches of Audiosurf and Garry's Mod.

Ahh. Good times. :)

Seconded. Serious Sam is a blasty blast.
I was married in an online fantasy game once. We thought about having children, but it would severely drain my power crystals.

Playing C&C: 3 was a ton of fun when you use the unupdated versions.

And, of course, CS: Source and CS 1.6 (or 1.5!) is a blast.

Armagetron
Worms World Party

Two games which are always fun when you're too drunk, too tired or too drunk and tired to play proper games :)
