I didn't get past the first planet you start on (Jedi Knight), so I can't really comment on everything, but I can say that I wasn't really impressed by any of the little stories in the game, nor did I feel that I was truly important in the overall war between the jedi and sith.
The one thing that I was impressed with was the voice acting. The voice acting was just as good as any other Bioware game.
I guess I was setting myself up to be disappointed by expecting TOR to be anywhere near as good as KotOR.

Hawkwing74 wrote:After reading about the game...I feel like I've drunk the Kool-Aid and will probably be purchasing. It's a shame to leave WoW after so many years (sunk cost fallacy) but they really need to get on the stick and add content. They should have known eventually they couldn't just sit on their laurels.
JohnC wrote:Interesting. I've been on the beta since July (and now that the NDA is mostly lifted, I can talk about it). I have very little experience with MMORPGs, so I'm always keen to get the perspective of WoW addicts. Compared to the one MMORPG I've played, SWTOR is fantastic. Lifting heavily from Dragon Age: Origins and having multiple story lines is a real plus IMHO. Given Bioware's writing talent, I'm really curious to see what the story is for the different classes.Long story short: it's a very generic MMORPG game with an extremely dated engine, the only unique "carrot-on-a-stick" features being the "single player RPG"-like interaction with an interactive NPC's (with full voiceovers, interactive "conversation" selections and an appropriate cutscenes) and your own NPC companions
JohnC wrote:First, I agree it's not going to get WoW numbers. But that is an insanely high bar you're talking about. That's like saying Serious Sam isn't going to get Modern Warfare 3 numbers. Second, how does the story line/character max compare to WoW's mechanic? What is there to do when you get yet another WoW character up to 85?(though you can only have a single active companion at a time when doing quests). I do not believe this game will achieve nearly WoW-like success (by that I mean the active subscription numbers) in a long term, considering that once you level up all of your characters to max level and went through all of the available "interactive storyline" parts and "romanced" all of the possible NPC companions there's nothing else to do

I think that one has the best dialog and story I've found so far (out of Guardian, Consular, Inquisitor and Bounty Hunter).I've played in one beta weekend, and am invited for an upcoming one. I've played the Trooper class mainly, next beta I'll try the healer type Jedi.

JohnC wrote:That's a little weird to me. I found all of the outside environments to be fantastic, especially Taris. Wandering around a destroyed city was fun. Just looking at dozens of half-collapsed buildings and starships was pretty cool, IMHO. Everything in this game is huge, with the typical Star Wars architecture philosophy of big drops and no railings . The art of Taris was one of the few things I actually liked about that planet, as I spent way too much time there killing way too many of the same dumb monsters. Probably because it's the planet right before you get your speeder, but man it was a slog.I guess a (subjectively) beautiful in-game world/environments/animations is a very important and addictive aspect of the game. Which is, IMO, something that SWTOR really lacks. I know that the Bioware was going for specific visual theme, and I really liked it when playing original KotOR many years ago, but for some reason I don't find it visually pleasing anymore (and not because of low-res textures or (temporary) lack of AA), plus I was really put off by a weird (that's how it felt to me) size scaling of characters in relation to game world/objects (everybody looked too "small" and "thin" regardless of zoom-in view level).

Yeap. Just a "mini-game" to waste your time on between "scheduled raid times"
