COD 4 and 5 Crashing on Win7

I have the full suite of COD 1 + exp pack, 2, 4, 5, 6.

I was able to get 1 and 2 to work flawlessly on my win7 machine with some dicking around and 6 just worked but versions 4 and 5 just don't seem to work.

In COD 5 I can't create a profile to start the game and seems to crash because of it and 4 just crashes (stopped working message).

In reading online, I have been seen that both games have issues with on-board sound which I use.
My hearing is not the best so I doubt I'll ever hear an improvement using a discrete sound card.

The fact remains I want to play COD 4 and 5 again.

This leads me to the question:
I would like to know if anyone has been able to get COD 4 & 5 to work with an amd 4870 video card, core 2 duo, 8gig ram, on win7 64bit with this sound card:
ASUS Xonar DS 7.1

If you have please let me know if it just worked or if there was some thing you had to do and what you did.

Maybe I should expand this to ask if you have played COD 4 or 5 on win7 what sound card did you use?
And did you have any issues getting it to work properly?

I've gotten every CoD game available for PC to work decently on my rig, except for the original and MW2 which I haven't installed on any of my newer systems. I'm running a Phenom II 955 (3.2ghz), 4gb DDR3, Radeon 5770, Creative X-Fi Champion series and W7 64-bit professional. I haven't had any problems with any of the CoD games and I even got EAX to work on CoD2.

Are you getting the famous iw3mp.exe error message?

Yep that's the one. (BUGGER!)

Gonna try the ASUS Xonar DG that Morphine suggested and see if that fixes it.

The original game (and its expansion) is a bit of a pain to get working but once fixed works fine.
I was able to fix it will a specific .dll from an older ati driver and messing with the config file allowed me to get it to work at 1920x1080.
