Yeah, I knew it was recent, but it jacks the cost of admission up around $35 (>.<), which isn't great since I was hoping to just get a good feel for the game. $12 isn't bad, though.

But would Civ V - G+K still be a good experience? I can always pick up G+K later (like if it's on sale during the holidays).
On second thought, let's not go to TechReport. It's infested by crypto bull****.

As someone who paid full price for CivV, paid a less-reduced price for the GOTY DLC bundle, and preordered G+K, I clearly assigned the value pretty high. G+K is highly desirable, but not essential. Just bear in mind that a lot of the stuff that's "missing" in Civ5 from a Civ4 pov has been restored in G+K or is likely to be in another addon.

So Civ5 : good. Gotye : better. All plus G+K : best.
Please don't edit my signature for me. Thanks.

Sorry, G+K is too recent to get heavy discounts. It's well worth the price of admission, Morphine and I have both been enjoying the G+K additions. Maybe we will tell you about the epic struggle between Jediism, Pikeyism, and Islam some time.

I would dispute CivV being Civ-lite. It's better explained as Civ reboot. They're slowly reintegrating most of the missing things left out of Civ4, but better designed and balanced now.

I was talking strictly about vanilla-Civ5 as I haven't played G+K.

And I would dispute better balance and design for some aspects (like combining culture and government has ruined both aspects imo).

I cracked 100 yesterday thanks to the Total War pack. All I play is TF2 and SMNC. I think Legend of Grimrock and Arma(Day Z) will be in semi-regular rotation though.

Now is the time to get Arma if you're interested in Day Z. You won't find it for less than $18.

That made me chuckle a little.

Are those even games though? I bought Dear Esther for my Gf, she likes mysterious themes like that. When she finishes it im going to give it a "play" too.

Bastion is great, sort of a platformer in 3D with a nice story. There is some replay value too even if it's a little forced (replay through the same game with a score, or get achievements etc.) A console controller is highly recommended.

Are the Xbox 360 controllers the best way to go?

I cant stop buying cheap ass games, some of them i want to play on the controller now. Some of these games i dont think ill ever come to them soon, but the collection is looking better. 8)

The wired Xbox360 controller is probably the best PC game pad you can get these days.

I'm using the DualShocks from my PS3 with a driver that emulates the XBox360 controller.

Same here. Sometimes I have trouble doing the translation when Xbox buttons appear on screen though. Especially when A looks so similar to triangle.

I bought Portal 2 and ArmAII. ArmAII is solely about Day Z. I'm super excited to see a mod driving sales of a game through the roof. It shows developers and publishers that allowing people to make free content for your game can be financially rewarding. I'm sure Bohemia Interactive would agree after the last week.

I know there's the "Etc." post, but now that the dust has settled, what's your damage?

Bastion (+Soundtrack)
Deus Ex: Human Revolution (+DLC)
Fallout 3 (GOTY)
Sid Meyer's Civilization V (+DLC)

Not as bad as previous sales...I think Civ V was the most expensive at $12 with everything but G+K. And I got the soudtrack to Bastion, which is awesome.

Fallout New Vegas Ultimate
Batman Arkham City
Tomb Raider: Anniversary
Mata Hari
Monkey Island bundle
Splintercell: Chaos Theory

Looks like I spend under $30, so not too bad.

I only bought Fallout NV Ultimate Edition and Torchlight. I used a Gamestop gift card and bought $20 of steam cash so I only spent a little over $7 out of pocket. Would have been better but I got excited and got NV for $23 instead of waiting for it to go down to $10.

I got "Saints Row the Third", which is an awesomely fun game and was well worth its $12 or so, then I've got the "Bioshock 2" which was, as expected, pretty disappointing but ok for $10 or so, then I've got the "DA:O Ultimate Edition" which I already had but I had it on unreliable and annoying DVD media and I just wanted it in digital, DRM-infested form  , and it was also about $10 or so... All in all I've spent less than in previous years.

Yeah...Saints Row reminds me that I might have picked up some of these games at the same price before, so even though I didn't spend it all on one sale, I probably still spent it

I ended up with:

Deus Ex:HR
Batman AC
Civ 5 + all DLC but Gods/Kings

I think those three combined set me back just under 30 bucks. Not bad.

Total War Pack(Empire + DLC, Medieval II + Exp, Rome + Exp, Napoleon + DLC)
Krater
Terraria

So, not all that much. Krater is quite good and a steal at $7. Terraria is meh. I can see why people enjoy it; it's basically 2d Minecraft, but I prefer Minecraft. I guess Total War is my gem. $12 for all that is pretty sweet.

The worst part of Steam sales for me isn't spending the money. It's having to download everything on a 1.5mb connection...

I find the combat and crafting system in Terraria way more fun than minecraft. It also feels like a much more alive world that I'm exploring.

I got bored of Minecraft in 10 mins, but I have hours in Terraria.

Different strokes I guess.

Id love to try this. Since i already have a PS3 might as well try this before buying another controller. Whats the best software to use? Im doing some research on youtube, but before i start installing random files, what did you guys use that is tried and true? Windows 7 64-bit here.

Also, L4d2 is back on sale for 4.99. Coldstream is finally out of Beta.

I paid $20 on amazon for an xbox360 wireless receiver (usb). Plugged it in, turned my xbox360 controller on and windows recognized it perfectly. Never been an issue since. Every game sees it and lets you remap whatever you want. I freaking love it for emulating older games.

Yeah, it's really nice. My old roommate did this and we played the crap out of Mario Party.
