Using a Wireless 360 controller with DOSBOX

Wed Jul 09, 2014 12:54 pm

Does anyone know of a guide, or utility I can use to get DosBOX to recognize my controller as a plain old MPU-401 joystick (like the venerable sidewinder?).

I've been able to get a lot of games working, but I keep crashing in TIE Fighter and Strike Commander, since I can't steer.

BTW, between BASSMIDI.drv with SGM, and the MUNT standalone driver with CM-32L patches make all those old DOS games sounds AMAZING!

/If this is in the inappropriate section, or shouldn't be on this forum, just delete it. God knows the Vogons admins are quick use that tool...

Sorry, I don't have an answer. I'm just chiming in to say that TIE Fighter is one of the best games of all time. Doesn't really lend itself to a controller though, imo, unless you can macro some of the important keyboard commands to somewhere on the gamepad.

I tried using the DosBOX mapper, to no avail. I used to kick so much ass at Tie Fighter with my Microsoft joystick, back in the day. If you get a chance, try it out with the BASSMIDI.drv and a really good soundfount, and you'll be floored at how amazing it sounds.

Have you tried using Joy2Key? I haven't messed with DOSBox in a while, but just a thought.

No, I haven't tried that yet. I switched to a 360 controller to avoid all the Dual Action Pro mapping crap. :P

I'll download it in a sec, and give it a whirl. Thanks! :D
