The only problem is that it may be a little too dear, hence looking for a used one in good condition.
looks fantastic
but ARGH no sd slot no radio and small battery

It's going for $250 here, and Sony isn't very focused on the US market so I'm not sure if that would be higher or lower over there...
They're good about updating their devices, too, though a little slowly sometimes.
i think this is the best recommendation so far apart from the small battery its only missing the radio, ill talk to her about it maybe i can get her a little radio for work or something
(edit:HOLY CRAP gsmarena says it has a radio - WINNER)

You're guaranteed to get updates for a bit, and the 5S and later are 64-bit, so they'll make the transition to iOS 11.
Security issues are addressed more quickly, due to updates not being dependent on whether the carrier feels like it.
Even if you don't have Swappa, eBay AU exists, and I'm sure there's other options. Android might be nice --it would be my preference too, but Google really isn't ensuring consistency among phones, and a used iPhone is better built than pretty much any brand-new cheapie-vendor (read: not Samsung, Moto, LG, HTC) phones. It's also incredibly easy to find accessories for them.
The 5S should be going relatively inexpensive these days if your budget is tight.
absolutely cant have an apple device, she has had one in the past and doesnt like it, besides its missing a radio and sd slot and the display is too small on the 5s (i think it has a tiny battery too?) the 6 is too expensive for something missing the features she wants
the thing is she REALLY loves my phone (xiaomi note 3 pro) and all of its features, i was expecting something better would have been out by now (a year later) or i was hoping to get something just as good or even the same phone but i cant find one anymore
looks like im going to get her a xiaomi that might be missing a few features (like cell bands) or that sony xperia which looks fantastic apart from smaller battery
(edit: that sony is a winner now that i have seen it has a radio)
