In case anyone is interested. Here's the inside of a Dell Inspiron 15 i5570-5364SLV-PUS that I'm doing a SSD transplant into. This is the newest model with the i5-8250U.

As you can see, it comes with a single 8GB stick of DDR4-2400 RAM (CPUz reports CAS 17), second slot is open. M.2 2280 slot is open. Seagate 1TB hdd. The touchscreen "IPS" screen is lackluster, so much so that I have a hard time believing its not TN.

Seems like a solid product for $500.....**EXCEPT**.... I can't for the life of me get the darn thing to recognize any boot drives in UEFI boot mode. I've got two tested working bootable Win10 flash drives and it doesn't recognize either until I remove the Secure Boot and PTT, enable legacy ROM, and set boot mode to legacy instead of UEFI. Then it all works just fine. I even tried formatting the SSD (Samsung 850 EVO) on my main rig, then dropping it into the laptop and it still will only detect the bootable drive in legacy mode. Updated bios from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 and no improvement. (See Update below)

Out of curiosity, if you connect the 1TB HDD to your PC via e-Sata/Sata, can you mount it?

I ran into this unmountable issue when I recently worked on an at least similar Dell Inspiron. iirc after I set it up a desired, I ended up working around the issue via using a Linux live thumbdrive (to make a dd backup).

The system actually recognizes the factory installed 1TB hdd just fine with all the UEFI stuff enabled (which is frustrating as all heck). I literally just reverted from legacy boot back to UEFI boot, re-installed the hdd, and it booted right up. However, when entering the F12 boot menu, it still won't recognize either of my bootable flash drives no matter which of the 3 USB ports I plug it/them into. It would seem they format these hdds outside the actual machines they go into (even though that didn't work for me).

Also, no eSATA port.

[Update] Apparently Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (MCT) creates bootable flash drives differently than using the Win7 USB/DVD Download Tool with the Win10 .iso image. Unfortunately the Win10 MCT is buggy as all get out. Errored out over a dozen times on my main machine while trying to create a bootable flash drive (and there's no option to use the Win10 .iso to create a flash drive, you literally have to download the temp .iso every time you try), so I figured using the Win7 tool with the Win10 .iso would be fine. It actually worked and booted fine on my main rig, as well as a spare laptop I have lying around, but not the new Dell laptop. Anyway, I was able to get the Win10 MCT to work on the spare laptop to create a flash drive that the Dell will recognize.......6 hours later.....

Looks like a good update to my Inspiron 15 i5559-4682SLV. Its got an M.2? I didn't even check for one. I just slapped my old ssd in. 256GB is good enough for me on it.

I almost bought this while considering options for my work laptop and went to a different higher end model.
Was just wondering how did your SSD transplant workout?

The physical SSD transplant went fine. As I said, I used a 2.5" SSD I had lying around to replace the hdd. There is an open M.2 slot on the mobo if you want to run a dual drive setup though. And the system has two SODIMM slots but only came with 1x8GB RAM.

The extra long monitor hinges was a really nice thing to see. That gives me confidence that they will hold up nicely. Dell goes so far as to advertise hinge durability on their product page.

All-in-all, I still feel that it's a good value at $500 (for this particular configuration).
