iPhones go x86.... CONFIRMED!

Fri Sep 14, 2018 9:52 pm

That's right suckaz. Apple might be all happy with a 7nm Apple ARM Miracle chip that's a whole 15% faster than last year's model.

But what happens when you need a superior CPU architecture that's designed for power efficiency in baseband processing?

YOU GO INTEL OR YOU TURN OFF THE RDF!

LOL... but not all that surprising, given that Intel makes the baseband chip. I'm actually more surprised that the previous Intel baseband chip used ARM!
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Huh, I would guess that Intel snuck in a Quark core into the baseband.

Ultimately though, I think Apple will start to develop their own baseband modems. That is really the only part of the design that they completely rely on 3rd parties to engineer. (Apple has invested heavily into screen technologies but manufactured by 3rd parties.)
