What do I call this part?

Thu Jan 03, 2019 12:50 pm

One of my users' laptops had an "accident": sat on with the screen open. The screen is broken and the housing along with it, so I will need to replace everything on the top half. I can find a replacement panel easily enough but I don't know what I should call the remainder of the top portion/housing.

Well, in Lenovo service manual language, they're bezels and/or rear covers. Probably going to need the hinges as well. At some point, a drive cloning to a new unit will be cheaper.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.

Assuming the hinges, cables, and inverter aren't damaged, looks like it'll be about $60 for the panel, $30 for a refurb back cover, and $20 for a refurb bezel.

My first thought was "How the heck do you accidentally sit on your laptop's screen?"
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

I have a substantial bet with myself that his kid was involved.

Depending on the laptop model and your company's policies regarding third-party sourcing, you might find the entire assembly with cables and hinges on eBay for about the same money. The usual catch is making sure the cable and connector are the same, as some vendors use more than one type in the same model line.
