Remove U3

Sun Oct 01, 2006 12:10 pm

I have a SanDisk 512 MB USB drive. It has U3 on it. I have no use for U3 and was wondering if anyone knows how to completely remove U3.

Thanks

I hate U3!

U3 has a removal utility....google for it.

The key thing is that you need to go to your hardware list and remove the U3 CD drive that U2 installs. Unless the U3 drive is removed, your system won't remove the U3 software as it thinks it's still in use.

Post your results. I hope it works for you. I couldn't get U3 off my Sandisk.

Reformatting/partitioning the thing does get rid of it? That sucks. I need a new USB drive...I've got a 2GB Memorex, but it's slow...wouldn't mind something that'd work with Readyboost.

For me, Reformatting/partitioning only worked with the drive space that was not already taken over by the U3 software.

So the U3 software would actually have to be install first then, right?

So if I grab a new drive with U3, the first thing I would do is reformat it. THAT should be enough. Since I keep autorun disabled, there should be no way for it to infest my machine...

If you're asking me, I have no idea. Honestly, I gave time and effort trying to wipe the whole drive clean, and install a boot sector for loading Memtest86+ but quit before reaching (or even caring anymore about) a solution to my issues with U3.
