Windows IMAP client w/o local storage?

Sat Aug 26, 2017 9:57 am

The recent changes in Yahoo Mail's web client made me realize I'm wasting too much time on the progressively deteriorating web interfaces of Yahoo and Gmail.

Are there any trustworthy, good, lightweight Windows IMAP clients that don't store stuff locally?

Something like an IMAP-supporting Popcorn (which is an old but still nice no-local-storage POP3 client):

I've used eM Client for quite a few years now. That's the closest thing you can get to Outlook that's not Outlook. In your IMAP account settings, you can uncheck the "download messages" box. Also, dark theme.

I've also tried Mailbird and liked it, but couldn't use it as at the time there was no no filters functionality. Maybe that's changed since then, but in the meantime I renewed my license to the program above.

I was hoping to find the opposite to Outlook. :)

eM is too full-fledged and large.
I'll check Mailbird, but it doesn't seem no-local-storage oriented and its "Apps" thing (Facebook, WhatsApp...) does not bode well.

Windows 10's builtin mail app is now good enough for most of what I do. The nice thing about IMAP clients is you can try all of them at the same time.

Thunderbird has an account setting "Keep messages for this account on this computer" which may be un-checked.
