Fellow Gerbils, I need help with suggesting a networking product to a coworker. He's running some ancient gear that he says is about 10 years old. His device is in a basement and he is having range issues outside. I'm pretty sure he's only using 2.4 GHz 802.11n, so 5GHz AC will definitely be an issue for range. For that reason I suggested he steps up to a modern mesh solution. NOTE: He also has nothing plugged directly into his current router. Also, Unifi is not something he's interested.
Right now he's eyeballing Google Wi-Fi because it's cheap, about $250. I'm not sure what options are out there and if they are worth dropping more money on. There's Eeros, Luma, Securifi, etc. What would you suggest he buys, and why? If you suggest a more expensive solution what makes it worth the money?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Google Home != Google WiFi
