Netflix throttling bandwidth?

Fri Sep 25, 2020 6:52 am

I finally found in task manager network details a listing of the total bytes received after starting task manager.

Approx 484 MB for 3 (39 minute) episodes. So maybe 160 MB per 39 minute show...
0.547 Mbps (if I did the math correctly?).

My account is set for up to 4k(no chance) and max quality of up to 3 GB per hour which would max out my DSL connection.
Amazon Prime does max it out while streaming.(6 Mbps)

But Netflix, once the show is running, sends data (4-5Mbps) for 2 seconds out of around 12 seconds. (@mid morning or @4am)
So 10 seconds of zero data coming in then two seconds of 4-6Mb.
No where near even standard definition quality.

Netflix says they stopped throttling data for the US in July.
If that is to be believed then that would leave AT&T. But AT&T admits to nothing.

So anyone else watching their network graph while watching Netflix?

Thoughts Welcome!

My money's on AT&T messing with you.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

I do wonder about that. My Data limit resets next week will interesting to see if anything changes.

I did pay for a month of Nord VPN. No difference in Netflix streaming bandwidth.

Netflix and Amazon had no problem knowing I was on a VPN and were going "nope" for certain shows.

Now Netflix only stopped me from viewing the new (this month) Season 5. Season 1-4 were not a problem to view.
Guessing that Season 5 was under location restrictions.

Guess I'll be happy for whatever I can get.

Thanks.

I never knew about this. Usually, when I watch on Netflix, I just watch and then I no longer mind about the bandwidth being used since most of the tie, my family watches together on our shared account. i think there are only a handful of situations when we watched different movies and series at the same time. Still, we encountered no problems with Netflix and we were really glad that is very entertaining and it kept us sane, especially during the lockdown. No problems with the bandwidth. I love all of the new series that they release quite usually.
