Its on an external wifi antenna

Its similar to an N-type, but its not screw on, its push and twist...

I need an adaptor to an RP-SMA type.

Common in really old networking, and really old high end graphics/monitors.

check Radio Shack... I used to see those connections on the big front-projection monitors back when I did home-theater design

odd that a wifi device would use it though...

edit: you may need multiple adaptors :-?

Very common in test equipment .. scopes, etc. Very good for controled impedance coax lines.

Yup. BNC. We just installed a set of external wireless antenaas and they connect to the Cisco equipment via BNC. Well, technically the antenna connects via coax to the Cisco Aironet 1310 box which connects via BNC to the Cisco injector which connects to power and the 'net.

Sorry to spoil it for everyone but that is some kind of reverse BNC. A standard BNC connector has a pin in the middle and not what you see there. I'm not sure what that is. It really looks like a kind of reverse BNC.

It's an RP-BNC type.

BTW, BNC stands for Bayonet Neill-Concelman. There are also TNC connectors which are the same size but threaded.

I was taught BNC = Barrel-Nut Connector.

If newegg hasn't failed me that connector's mostly used on outdoor antennas, so you might have some luck googling "802.11 outdoor antenna adaptor" or somefin.

you know, if those BNC adapter links don't do the trick.

After much-ado trying to find an adaptor, and talking to some radio nuts about adaptor signal loss, Im going to take the antenna to a local radio shop and have them crimp on an RP-SMA connector. It'll cost about 30 bucks, but give me a much better quality signal

It's for wardriving, so I want to get the lowest signal loss possible

I find it useful to be able to get on the net when Im on the road. I spend a lot of time in my car, and often find that I need to look up phone numbers/places of business/part numbers, whatever.

How hard would it be for me to do a decent job of crimping on a new connector myself?

Might be a reason for paying some $$ for data connection on your cell phone, rather than stealing other people's connections.

Easy. Crimping is -very- easy. Buy the right crimping tool (not some cheap RadioShack one) and the proper fittings and cable, and yer all set.

I pasted the link earlier in this thread. They sell the proper crimpers, ends, and wire to do the job.

Are you kidding? Canada is pretty much the most freedom of data oriented country in the western world.
