Wireless networking problems

Fri Apr 01, 2011 11:16 am

I have a friend that has a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop and he is having some wireless issues with regards to video streaming. He brought it to me the other day with issues of web video streaming that wouldn't make it past 5 seconds without stopping to buffer. I ran a quick speedtest on it and came up with about .3Mbps download. Just to test I threw another hard drive in it and reinstalled windows 7. After that it was getting around 9Mbps.

We tested some videos and they all worked great. He got it home and went to watch a video and it started buffering every 3-5 seconds. I ran a speedtest on it again and it was receiving around .2Mbps. He tested the same video on a different laptop and had no problems (both were on the same network)

Brought it back into the office today and it worked fine. I am trying to figure out why it is bombing out on other wifi networks that other computers are running fine on. Any ideas?

I did try an external wireless adapter and that did not help the problem at all.
