Too many APs

Sitting at my desk at work and the wireless network is flaky.
sudo iwlist wlan0 scan | grep ESSID | wc -l
120
Hmm, I can't think why my wireless flakes out multiple times a day...

How many of those are controlled by your company? And how many are from other companies in the same building (a ballpark estimate)?

I'm curious, in your experience, what's a likely threshold for trouble? (Let's assume we're restricted to only the 2.4GHz band.) I guess another way to ask is, how many times can you fill up the 1, 6, & 11 channels before asking for trouble?

It's only us and our parent company in the building. What's driving up the number is we are working on embedded systems, many of which have APs embedded in them. As long as we don't bridge them on to the corporate network then the IT guys don't freak out.

I'm not sure quite what the threshold is for stability, it seems I'm on the edge as I'll be OK for a few hours and then have no hope of getting on the corporate wifi. Good job we have wired jacks at the desk!

Sounds like someone needs to put Faraday cages around their test benches...

Theoretically, you should be able to have 250-odd APs in an ad-hoc network, yes?

I wouldn't expect it to work well though...

Where is that theoretical number coming from? 2^8?
