LOL, I've seen that...

The moral: You can't train monkeys to build and run enterprise systems.

It's the experts that make it happen, and the better they are, the more they cost. It's not really an OS issue, when you get down to it. If the best rainmakers are working with UNIX, what does that tell you?
You are false data.

Reminds me of when Microsoft bought Hotmail. The service was running on Unix, smooth as can be but then Microsoft decided to switch it to NT/2K servers and had problems to no end, a couple still crop from time to time. And this is the company that HAS the most monkeys .

Beautiful stuff.

Isn't a big portion of the Hotmail farm *still* running BSD? I thought I saw a news blurb a while ago stating something to that effect.

Yeah, Hotmail uses FreeBSD, and MS still hasn't managed to "fix" it. It was Microsoft's own website that was running on UNIX (Solaris, to be precise) until a year or two ago.

It's worth nothing that they moved the site to a win2k box and the site went down within a couple of hours. Long live FreeBSD!

Actually, that 'Win2k' box still uses /bin/ls. I have a strong suspicion (thanks, flesh!) that it's still running BSD, but it's been hacked to return the IIS/2K OS string, and the error pages were all redirected to static Win2k versions.

The lengths to which they'll go to avoid looking like the hypocrites they are!!

All hail the open source which lets you hack your OS return in Apache!
