Even Without A Headphone Jack, iPhone 7 Boosts Apple’s Sales

Thu Feb 02, 2017 3:27 pm

Yep. The uproar over headphone jack was ridiculous. Clearly the market didn’t care.

They might've sold even better if they had a headphone jack.

I'm sure the Note 7 debacle also helped iPhone sales.

So much good info in your link End User. I probably wouldn't have made it through the day without that. Thanks.

They cared. However, Apple gave them the chance to courageously partecipate the cause by shelling off $150 for a pair of air pods and they happily did.
I now have three colleagues sporting white plugs dangling down their ears. They remind me of a certain scene of There's Something About Mary.

Is End User, like, a Gruber repost bot or something? For somebody who said he'd give Apple an F overall he sure is ready to celebrate their successes.

Apple needs to fail in the worst way so Tim and Jhonny get their heads out of their asses.

It's all about mobile applications and their delivery. Wired headphone audio is just one of them, and it has decent wireless substitutes.

Removing features never hurt anything, the phone will remain popular. The Blackberry Storm removed the hardware keyboard and no one minded that at all.

Of course a few people complained, some always do, but nothing substantive came of it.

From the article: "The device initially sold well thanks to the strength of the BlackBerry brand and a major marketing push from Verizon".

Of course the comparison won't be exact, it's a different product from a different time. There are just... a few similarities.

But it was being marketed as an iPhone competitor, and the people buying it were not necessarily traditional Blackberry customers.  When it failed to meet either the performance or the quality expectations the iPhone had established, it crashed and burned.

I suspect that the main competitor literally burning people's houses down might have something to do with it.

What?

Sorry, next time I'll /sarc.

Apple seems pretty bent on hastening their decline, but then, they don't realize they're in decline, just like Nokia didn't for the longest time.

That sure was one heck of a tailwind. So much so that we'll have to wait for the iPhone 8 before we can tell if Apple's peaked yet.

The other thing is no one ever went bankrupt under-estimating the general public. Amongst the  non-technical, iPhones are considered to be the best because marketing and received wisdom says they are the best: details like actual functionality delivered vs price are largely ignored. (From what I can tell the iPhone 7 is a capable phone, but I can't see anything that makes it worth 2x what I paid for my Nexus 6P).

For a "doomed since time immemorial" company, they somehow have the uncanny ability to have their worst division that makes dead-as-disco tablets outperform AMD's entire yearly revenue and profit in a single quarter.

Don't forget that the Bluetooth Beats line was integrated and introduced a bit before the jack was removed.  ;)

Amazing marketing.
