iOS or my car?

Tue Nov 07, 2017 12:39 pm

Howdy all

Before iOS 11, whenever I activated Siri to send a text when my car was running, the radio bluetooth would read the message back to me. So I would say "Send a message to Mom: on my way" and Siri would reply "Your message says: on my way. Ready to send?" I would say "yes" and presto, off it went.

Since iOS 11 (at least I think so, I'm not sure when it stopped), all Siri says is "ready to send it?" No reading back of the message. Is this just a "feature" in iOS 11, or did some setting somewhere get flipped? Or is it my car bluetooth, which I sort of doubt since nothing has changed there.

I've tried googling, but TBH I'm not real sure what to google.

It's not your car. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are basically dumb touchscreens, the app runs on the phone and not on the headunit.

Doesn't look like it was iOS 11. FWIW, and I don't have an iOS device sitting here so I can't test it, but you should be able to say "read" or "review" or something and Siri will read it back. Hey, at least it's something.

For use without a car, that is based on whether the mute switch is flipped. When on mute/vibrate, it won't read it back, but when on regular volume it will.

I rarely use Siri but I’ll give it a whirl on my drive to work tomorrow .

Re Android, not accordingly to Porsche a couple of years ago (and they wouldn't really have any motivation to be deceitful).
Here's a quick search result link that re what I'm referring to: https://www.theverge.com/2015/10/6/9460 ... droid-auto

That link is just about what data gets sent back to the phone, not about where the app runs and what it sends across the network link. Also note that Google denied the claims in the article.

It's not your car, it's Siri and Apple's effort to change/innovate in funny way :D I got this problem too, but I didn't really notice it until reading your post.
