Too bad that apple overlooked the overpatchability of the patch they sent out haha...

Man, this thing is the gift that keeps on giving. Just in time for the holidays too!

I have been repeatedly dismissing the High Sierra upgrade nag on my work MBP. I think I will continue to put it off until Apple gets their act together, or IT says they're not supporting Sierra any more.

Same. I'm still productive with Sierra and XCode 9 runs just fine so there's no need to replace it. At first it was just fear of breaking something that works, but now it's something else entirely.

It appears that Apple should have spent some of their $25+ billion tax-evaded off-shore reserves on a bit of quality assurance.

Just reboot the damn computer after you update. I'm not saying this bug isn't really dumb and Apple handled this poorly but come on people.

Is it confirmed anywhere that an additional reboot prevents 10.13.1 from un-doing the fix?

You seem to be saying we shouldn't be discussing this. Remember that everything someone says before the "but" is discarded extra words.

Examples:

We think you're doing a fine job but we're going another direction. = you're fired.
This is great but these things could be better. = you screwed up.
I love you but you're an jerk. = you're an jerk.
Apple handled this poorly but come on people. = come on people.

Yes, Microsoft's doing it too. That doesn't change the reality of Apple's own behavior on the matter.

I use a broad range of tech (AMD most recently). Beholden to all is my moto :P

If someone makes it appear as if Apple is the only culprit in the murky world of corporate tax avoidance then I am going to make it clear that Apple is not the only company doing it. I'm not condoning the practice, merely pointing out the facts. By the by, I thought the latest round of tax "reform" was going to deal with this stuff. Apparently not. I guess the GOP forgot about it in their haste to get their scribbled tax cuts for the wealthy passed.

It seems recently, Apple has been a bit sloppy on their OS releases. My first official (personal) Mac was the Power Mac G5 in 2004. And I have dabbled in different systems since then. However...recently it seems their iOS and OSx releases have been glitchy, or basically rushed out. Lots of simple things that should have been caught in testing are just passed on by. I mean, we are already on iOS 11.2 (released to fix the time bug) and it is not even 2018 yet! So two major updates to 11 already. By September next year, we will be rocking iOS 11.11 lol

And MacOS has been getting through with more bugs than before it seems.

Meanwhile my new Android phone (late August?) is still on an OS build from July 1st or so with major security issues outright ignored and...yeah I'd take a few glitches in iOS over this ****, I thought most major vendors were better than that these days but I guess not.

I just randomly typed in an iOS version and...

... iOS 9.2 was released on December 8, 2015.

The APFS rollout has been exceptionally well done for both iOS and macOS (with the exception of Fusion Drive based systems).

I've been using macOS High Sierra since the summer and I came across no show stopper issues in my workflow prior to the mactastrophe that occurred last week. I'll let someone with more experience than me sum up his take on the OS.

This was a big reason I dropped Android with the Moto Droid Razr in 2012. Suddenly, "support" for the phone died and that was that.

Oh I'm not griping on the amount of updates! Security issues should be addressed on all devices and platforms for a reasonable time frame. I mean bugs in general. I use to update everything when the updates launched. Now I find myself waiting until at least the second or third point update before moving over.

You'd think I'd have learned at some point, but apparently not. I figured they must've worked it all out by now.

I mean, I'd still rather be on Windows Phone if it wasn't gasping for breath...at least you could expect a reasonable level of support there. iOS is still a little expensive.

Anyway, I can't honestly say I need a phone 99% of the time so I turned it off for the moment.

I run developer betas of macOS as soon as they come out on my primary Mac (after I clone it) and my gaming rig is on the fast track thingamabob for Windows.

My most important devices (iPad/iPhone) stay current but no dev releases.

Hmm....how irritating. I just updated to High Sierra because it kept announcing me about the update. I did to stop it, and High Sierra does slow my Macbook air early 2015.

Hey! That is the same laptop I have too! Is it really bad? I have a new SSD coming to replace the dying HDD and hoped that would speed it up a bit. I'm still on 10.10 currently with 10.13 on a flash drive ready to go.

No, it's kinda okay really, so long as I try to keep RAM usage down and accept the occasional brief hangs even so. That's after I put in an SSD and bumped it to 4 GB RAM, though -- with the original 2 GB and mechanical drive, 10.13 was seriously unusable.

10.13 is the limit for these ones anyway, so we have only 2 years left of security patches. (Not a bad run, though.)
